Speedo problem
Right you clever lot, looking for some ideas.
Took my car down the weighbridge this morning to see how porky it is. 618kgs wet so not to bad but I need to lose some more weight.
On the way back I hit a rock on the motorway. It bounced up under the car and has but a nice big dent in the transmission tunnel by the passenger
side
Wose still its damaged the speedo. It now reads about 50% lower than it should. Any ideas what might be damaged? I assume it has hit the sender on
the gearbox somewhere.

Okay, thanks!!!!
I'm not gonna go back a look for it.
That'll be a new job to do next week then.

Find a magnet on the motorway! That will take some doing. It's probably stuck itself to a tube in the transmission tunnel.

At least with a speedo only reading half speed the mileage will only show half of actual mileage

UPDATE
Yep - Lost a magnet so will need to buy another one.
Reason I lost it is also clear now. A balance weight on the propshaft has come off which explains the bang and the dent in the transmission
tunnel.
This could have either hit the magnet or the vibration could have shaken it off although the car didn't feel any different when driving it
home.
Either way, I'm gonna have to remove the prop now and get it balanced again
