Velocity Ground Clearence and Speedhumps
just moved house and there is no way i can avoid speed humps - they are the ones that are square to allow ambulances and vans to not go over them, but
cars have to.
im worried that i will not be able to drive my kit car once its done! the gearbox is only 4 fingers above ground level!
anyone else had problems with simular speed humps?

You basically need 4"/100mm ground clearance as an absolute minimum for road use in my experience - anything lower leads to grief, expense &
embarassment, not necessarily in that order!
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Haven't got a Luego, but a Locost (eski mk2 based), and yes I am hemmed in
There are only two routes out of town that I can take (with care)...
One being through the town, which is always congested, and...
the second (my preferred route) has just had road works done and one set of humps/cushions is now a lot higher that it used to be!
So I am not sure if I can still take that route

That is why I am building the MotaLeira with air suspension.
I will be able to vary the ride height from 0-6" with a running height of 3".
I built the F1-2 at 100mm and I do manage to get over those pillow type speed bumps around Mitcham, but three times, through police road closures, I
have been re-directed down roads with the speed bumps from hell.
Even 100mm was too low!!!!

I too am surrounded by the smaller square speed bumps, just if possible drive in the centre of the road, instant 8" ground clearance.
ATB Dan.
P.s. try to avoid cars coming the other way
The less I worked, the more i liked it.

How expencive, i mean locost is that?
Iv got shed loads round here and the only way out without meeting one is down a sharp hill to a junction Even the jag struggles for grip when
accellerating hard from there in the wet
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

The air suspension kit was £850 from a firm in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
They are Bilsteins though !

Those square humps are my biggest problem and I have to go down the middle of the road or I would just end up spinning on top of one of those things
Regular humps aren't too bad but I recently raised my ride height to compensate for the springs settling over 10K miles (For a while I thought
the humps were growing )
With swmbo in the car the problem is even worse... she gets upset when I remind her of that fact for some reason.
Cheers,
Raz

I run 80mm from tarmac to sump... No problems so far but I do tend to slow down a hell of a lot and on the "one bump on each side of the road
with a gap in the middle" type bumps I wait until a gap in the traffic and pull out so the sump goes in the gap between the bumps!!!! My sump
has four little metal tabs hanging off the bottom of it. When I start knocking those of I'll start getting worried!!! Oh well, hopefully the dry
sump will happen soon....
