tell them that the Maidstone DVLA approved my made up chassis number so you cant see any reason why they did not accept yours.

You are not allowed to use '1'
I made up my own VIN number and had no issues...just put it on all the forms when we applied for the SVA and no problems atall!

Mine was made up - had to be before the forms went in.
Can recommend Paul Jepson - he did all my stuff, completely hassle free.

you are allowed 1s. i had same problem, went to swansea before applying for sva they told me i could not have a made up chassis number and would have
to be issued one from them!!
took some friendly advice from a couple of builders on here, used my own chassis number to apply for sva, once passed went cardiff dvla who didnt
blink an eye and registered my car within 15 mins!! didnt even look at the car. i had a Q plate but still there is no reason why this should be any
different. as said many times before dvla offices vary depending mainly on who is working there I.E pen pushing penis who hates doing comlicated
things like registering a stupid kitcar! and likes to think he is in charge. well thats what its like in swansea.
hope you sort it all out, if all else fails go to cardiff.

Where you went wrong big style was involving the DVLA.
As previously stated make one up, apply for SVA, pass and then when you apply to DVLA for registration with your MAC it's too late for them to
change it.
It's best to make things as easy as possible for the DVLA because most of them just don't have a clue. If they don't have to think
they can be most helpful.
BTW mine has a / and a 1.
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

You can get your chassis number form Luego, assuming its A Luego chassis.
The format is no O's (Oh's) and no I's (Eyes)
only a 1 (ONE) and a 0 (Zero) are allowed to aviod any confusion.
You can make your own VIN number. The DVLA is talking rubbish. It has to be a certain length, 17 or 19 characters long (not sure on exact length.
Speak with the man at Luego.

i said earlier the chap in dvla didnt care, he just wanted me out of sight asap!!

They will write them as ones and zero's.
I found this out when I went to MoT it a year later. The MoT Computer showed this up, and the garage were not aware of it either (dont see many home
made VIN's do they)
Its the same reason why there are No Zero's in registration plates, namely you cant have G 0(zero) DDX as a reg,
you can have 1-9 but not zero.
There are no O or I prefix reg'd cars, ie A, B,C prefixes, but not O, I, Z, etc as they can be easily confused with numbers.
Wait and see.
