MK LEAKING FUEL TANK

What the hell has happend to my MK plastic fuel tank?
Its bowed and split all around the bottom of the tank. The car is not even on the dam road and things are failing allready!
The tank is breathable and was fine when fitted.

Looks a bit shite. Have you over tightened it?? If not go for a refund from MK surely it should be up to the job if they are selling it??

That must be a few years old Matt,MK stoped selling those 4 or 5 years ago, when I built my 1st Indy in 2004,it came with a alluminium tank.
Its a bit late now its leaking but it looks to me like it could be overtightend or its sucked itself in with vacum,is the breather pipe clear.

I got a plastic tank when I bought my car about 5 years ago. Tried to get my money back but was so much hassle I gave up and bought an Ally one.

There were loads failing when mine did which is why it was so hard to the get the money back. It wasnt directly MK making them, but an associate of theirs.

It was fitting nice and flat on the protection rubber when i fitted it and the breather is clear.
I think the plastic of the tank has has a reaction to the fuel.
Looks like i will have to throw more money at the indy now.
Paul have you an idea of the price of a MK alloy tank? (carbed)

Wow - this takes me back a few years to when I first joined LBs. I think it was one of the longest running threads at one stage.

The summary is the plastic tank is garbage. End of..

I've got to ask why you'd buy another tank from them!

You'd buy another tank from them because Martin Keenan makes good tanks. The plastic ones were made by 'Plastic tank man' and were nothing to do with MK. I just burnt mine and put it down to experience.

I just bought a new tank made by Martin and to be fair it is a nice piece of kit. That's for a ZX12 and set me back £135 (I think as I bought some other bits at same time). It might even be slightly cheaper if you go to Martin direct, although he might need your pump if he doesn't have a template for it.

Me to. Even if it was not made in house Mk still sold goods unfit for purpose so at the very least you'd expect some sort of compo. try talking to them you never know you might get something from them even a discount or new parts at cost price.

Yep...looks like a tank from Plastic Tank Man!!! i got through 2 of them and they leaked badly. Never got my money back from PTM!! Martin Keenan made me a propper ally tank which was perfect.

Those tanks were stopped being made by PMT about 4-5 years ago due to leaking problems and as far as i can remember MK made Ally tanks from then on but i may be wrong here.

1/Because this tank in Question must be over 5 years old.
2/These tanks were not only sold by MK but you could also buy them from many other sources,as well as direct from plastic tank man,so it could have been originally purchased from anywhere.
3/Matt did not even buy his kit from MK,he bought his kit part built from a third party.

thankyou Paul

Oh dear have we tread on Mks toes??????
Can you not give try to give a guy advice/help when asked (even if you've not got all the info)
As said earlier in the post by another poster he tried to get it sorted out and could not

It might be all right for all you guys in the know who go to Mk on a Saturday for a meet and can front up to them but for us a million miles away it seems to be a different story.(not that I've ever dealt with them like)

Ho hum rant over I'm glad I'm doing a scratch build.

ETA I've just realized that for many of us that take more than a year to build a kit then by the line of thinking on this thread none of our parts bought will be within there one year warranty

I was merely making everyone aware of the history of Matts build and the tank in question, because anyone reading the post not aware of all the facts, would end up as you did making the wrong assumptions,it also stops the usual keyboard warriors jumping on the band wagon when it comes to giving MK sportscars unreasonable feedback.
