Why can nobody drive in snow?
Made it 20 miles this morning, up two steep hills - I ended up getting stuck on a virtually flat piece of road because the pillock in front stopped
Handily a bloke with a V8 landy had a bungee cord, so I got a rather speedy tow

If I could get to the road I'd be ok but our yard at the back of the house slopes from right to left at quite a steep angle so no chance!! Oh
and the neighbours parked right up my jacksie again!!!

Huge fun, a good snow fall is always a great excuse to get out and play (with the shovel and snow chains in the back just in case). Not enough people
take the opportunity to practice in the snow. In my book there is nothing better that 6" of snow and an empty car park to hone your skills!

Got a choice of an IS200 or an IS300, not even going to attempt to get either off the drive. Its 10 years since we had this ammount of snow, in my
case why bother gearing up for it...

Witnessed 4 motors slide off the road, 2 of which were numpty 4x4's.
My little astravan made it fine, handbraking for fun, the only place it got stuck was the work car park, where it is now trapped.
Am borrowing the snow shovel at lunchtime

Snow? It's dry as a bone with bright sunshine down here, though it did get a bit chilly last night.

Making good steady headway this morning on untreated roads about 22 deep. Way up ahead Mondeo indicating to turn left into a side road stopped dead...
down through the gears very nearly slammed his back end with the nearside of my car. Then struggled to get way again on the ice.
I love it me like

This goes a few years back in Greece. -19 degress celcious, 20" of snow, me driving every day with a front wheel car and 80Hp. I wish it snowed
that much in Gloucester. I love driving when it snows.

Driving home last night from my parents I noticed the areas with trees were less snowy so took a country back route thinking the trees would keep the
blowing snow down.
Big mistake as the road was really bad and I was the first car down so had to make my own tracks... and try not to go down the ditches either side!
Anyway, point of the story is some tit followed me down there and stayed about 10' from my bumper. Couldn't possibly have stopped if
something had happened to me.
What a berk!
Cheers,
James

When I had the mark 2 Escort I used to pray for days like this. I'd be out doing my Russel Brooks impression (ask your dad!).
There's reason all those scadinavians are so good at car control.....

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

I had the choice of 230hp jag with 10" wide tyres or 10hp astra estate. I took the estate as it had never seen a road sideways. Took all the
backroads to work. Great fun, lets hope its the same tomorrow

too damn right.
no buses in London.
no planes moving in Hethrow.
M25 stopped
now what I can't work out is that there are no trains on the underground
is this some newly engineered snow that is able to find its way into tunnels? bonkers, that is what it is.
ok, so some trains go overground but surely they have the power to push the snow out of the way with some cunning plough attachement., it is not as if
they can fall of the rails? Or it is issue woioth the lelectric lines shorting out?

why nobody can drive in snow is because it never snows.
I drove in snow for the first time today, most of the roads were ok but the one down to my parents house was like a ice rink and at the last corner i
carried straight on into an old sandstone wall, needless to say it came off some what better as my side light is now smashed and front wing has a
nice big dent in it!
Dad was not that amused, especially when i said it would be good practise for lead loading!

It's mostly because the drivers, signalmen, etc. can't get a bus to take them to the nearest tube station or depot. Or they can't
get a tube because the driver of the train they want to catch is unable to get to work...

Exactly - we don't get a heap of snow every year, like they do in Scandinavia, Switzerland, etc. They get regular practice, have to learn how
to fit snow chains (which they have to carry), and the whole infrastructure is geared around coping with the snow. In many countries they don't
grit the roads - they plough off the surplus, and you're expected to know how to drive on the remaining packed snow. In some countries you also
have to change to winter tyres for use in icy conditions.

This morning i returned from america and had a great sight of the south coast, with lovely green fields in devon/cornwall turning whiter and whiter
before a complete white out in the south east, down side was the m25 driving home, lorry after lorry after lorry parked up white everyone else drove
on by at 10mph

I had to drive 10 miles home last night in the 7. I thought all the roads would be fine, and they were until I got to one stretch that the gritters
had missed. That was fun. Tick over in 2nd and still sliding sideways. Even better with a car sat a few feet behind me.
Today's fun was my 80 bhp transit connect and single lane back roads. The only other vehicles on the roads where 4x4s, and the only one I saw
totally screw up a corner was an XC90. I had just crawled round the same corner and down an icy farm track at 4-5 mph only for the Volvo to attempt
the corner and follow me down the track! The old dear driving it then sheepishly reversed back out and had another go at it.
