Forming Rear Panel From Ali
As the car (Procomp) is pretty much stripped, I'm thinking it might be an idea to re-skin the rear panel as it has a few battle scars.
What thickness of sheet should I go for and how easy, or difficult, is it to form around the frame?

I did it on mine, I used 1.2mm, its not too hard to do, just cut it to nearly the right shape, make the fold to go under the rear of the car, get
it in positon then use some fastners to hold it there, trim it to the right shape/size then do the rest of the bends around the frame/chassis.
Its easy if you say it fast
Its not too hard if you take your time.

2 pieces of wood 3 G-clamps and rubber mallet.
I also used a piece of soft wood against the ally to stop any creases, hammer marks by hitting the wood not the ally. I managed to get crease free
perfect bends like this. the hardest part was bending around the rear of the car as I bought a really long piece to go all the way to the side panels
and once this was fitted it was almost too wide for my garage!

Mine is 0.8mm Aluminium.
90 degree fold put in bottom edge and then formed round chassis with 2 g clamps and lengh of wood.

I made a card template first then transfered to 0.8mm ally. Never worked with ally before and surprised how easy it is. Did sides too.

Not hard overall, but I found it really difficult to get a good match from the paper template to the ally. wouldn't stay in place either, even
with clamps. turned out well enough though. Mine was in three parts. Satisfying work, as they say.
Can't you just sand down and repaint or vinyl (as I did) rather than strip it down and do it all over again? Or do you just like suffering that
much?????????? Better not answer that one. We know...

Hi
1.2 half hard Ali. Or have the fiberglass back panel we do. Just requires the earlier chassis to have the rear top rail lowered a bit as the new rear
panels are sloped to replicate an other manufacturers more original design.
