First drive today.

Hi, fellow Luegians - just a quick couple of pics to let you know I have MADE IT (bit of a play on words there...)

Just to quickly sum up...
Started building the Luego Locost after buying the chassis, body, wishbones and sierra donor from ebay on 6/10/08.
Joined this forum 12/3/09.
Bought engine - following advice from fellow Locosters - on 5/4/09.
Rolling chassis 17/10/09.
Finally fitted engine 22/1/10
Got it running 2/9/10.
Completed build oct 2010.
IVA test 2/12/10.........Fail.
IVA retest 28/1/11......Pass!
Submitted registration paperwork (one important bit 'borrowed' from Mel - rustynuts and Kenton) 31/1/11.
Registered Monday 7/2/11
Plates made and fitted Tuesday 8/2/11
First drive - TODAY - with the missus!

Just like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your posted comments, jokes, advice, expert opinions, ideas, inspiration, experience, motivation and support over the past two years - I really do appreciate it.

Thanks and best regards, Steve.
PS - a post is never complete without a pic......

Looks great - I'm a year in and it makes me realise how far I have to go, but the pics of your finished build have inspired me to get back into the garage this weekend

BTW do you have a set of instructions for the wiring and assembly/manufacture of the dash etc. I only have an old Velocity manual and that bit is missing

Nice one Steve - cracking looking car.

If it's not already happened wait until the first person asks you "Where did you buy that?" and you get to say "I didn't - I built it." Still brings a small smile to my face 4 years on...

Thanks for all the appreciative comments, guys.

First up, though - just to let you know DVLA have thrown away the rule book! Because not only did they say they DIDN'T need to inspect the vehicle to register it, I registered the car at Preston DVLA on Monday and The registration document actually arrived today! 4 Days!

But to answer your Queries, Tomgregory, Steve Lovelock and Andy188 - yes I will certainly be 'displaying' at stoneleigh - hoping to get some sort of wet weather gear on well before then. Looking forward to meeting you all (again in Steve's and a few other cases).

To Welderman - no, I can't come out to play yet - adithorp amongst others has suggested to take it easy at first - until I've learnt to drive it safely! - as someone has said - "these cars BITE!" I can well believe it, but I can see me heading your way for a summer blat - (went past you on monday in fact to NORTH WEST MINIS at Leigh to get my new steering wheel!)

To Steve Wallace (another one of the Locosters with a cat fetish?) I'm glad to hear I seem to have kickstarted your build again. - As far as the instructions go, I have a copy of the old half - baked Luego instructions which were almost zero use in building my dash - and It sounds like Steve L may send you a copy anyway.

To build my dash I had a look at many locosters photographs in their archives, decided what I wanted, and set about making the wooden part (I'm better practised with wood than metal), fitted the instruments, fitted the covering (no padding) using evo stick, and fitted the two bits together. To fix it to the car, I recessed 9 x M6 bolts into the beading, glueing them then grinding them so the heads were perfectly flush before covering the beading seperately. The bolts in the beading sandwich the main dash against the GRP and then the nuts are screwed on to the back.

A bit wordy, I know, but look in my archive under 'interior' - quite a few pics of the dash being assembled there. The glovebox was a bit of a pig, though!

Great - can't wait for the good weather - but next week's forecast is for winter again!

I'll be dropping by to show it off shortly, don't fret! (provided you are in england and not Saudi again)?

Excellent... Well done... Its a nice looking model, and the car aint bad either

Glad to see you have been paying attention to the posts on here. Namely about learing how your car drives. They can bite back if you are one of the unwary!

Take care, and enjoy.... You will have a lot of fun, and perhaps one or two scary moments when you get near the limits.
Just enjoy and be sensible... Its good fun and you dont want a summer rebuild job!

Watch out for those damp patches on the roads, dry one minute then slippy the next where it hasnt fully dried out.

Hope to see you at Stoneleigh..

Again... Welll done for reaching the finsihing post!

Thanks Geoff - I was taking it easy (until yesterday) when, feeling a bit more confident, and with the roads completely dry for the first time since I got it on the road - I decided to find out if the XE engine was worth all the trouble I had squeezing it in ( I know, I know, should 'ave gotten a Viento....) but no, I'm quite happy with my Luego Locost - diddy little thing that it is....
......back to the plot - just gave it a little bit of throttle in third - fourth - fifth - and wow! torque and acceleration are excellent - I was doing 90 (sorry, 70 officer ) with absolutely no effort

So, I would like to say to those of you who contributed to my engine choice back in feb 2009 see link below ( you were one, Geoff ) Thanks for helping me make the right choice.

Love it.which engine

Glad to see you are enjoying it all.

Its worth the effort in building these cars. It may not feel like it during the build, but I never fail to get a huge GRIN after driving it, even when arriving at Newark with 1/2" of water swilling in the bottom due to getting caught in a cloudburst when In a traffic jam on the A1.

Even the downsides are still pretty good times.... Grin Grin Grin.....

Enjoy, but stay safe!
