Need Help diagnosing this problem (tin top)
I got this message from SWIMBO this morning, she drives a 52 plate mk6 fiesta, that had the faintest drumming from a lh corner a couple of weeks
ago:
“My car has definitely got worse, when I set off this morning it sounded all clunky like something was loose and moving about and then once I got
going it kinda sounded like when you spin a coin on a desk and its going round and round before it comes to a stop. It was doing that when I was
going slow and fast, just speeding up or down in relation to what I was doing and when I went round a couple of roundabouts it was quite clunky”
Im planning on getting some parts at lunchtime and fitting them tonight, what do we rekon it could be outer CV joint or a wheel bearing?

wheel bearing I reckon
depending on how bad its gone, also check the ABS sensor, mine went big time and rubbed the sensor, about 2 weeks after the bearing went, the car
played up going into traction control and the ABS cuttign in every time you braked
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it breaks, hit them with it

Once you have heard a loose wheel you recognise it instantly ---- fits the description exactly.

^^ tell her to check all the wheel nuts are tight before driving it home
not long ago someone I know got overtaken by there own wheel on the motorway

This may sound daft but, does it have wheel trims as it could just be dirt behind them or part of the inner trim damaged.

never had a loose wheel so I bow to your experience on this matter 
have you had tyres fitted recently? or maybe someone been trying to nick them?
a loose wheel is certainly more worrying than a bearing
but on the other hand its far cheaper
heavy is good, heavy is reliable, and if it breaks, hit them with it

after the loose wheel comment, I phoned the AA who sent a van to check the nuts (as she's stuck in meetings all day)
Ironicly I know the driver as he's my local garage In his own words the rear right wheel bearing is "paggered" like an inch of play
top and bottom and he's dropping it on my driveway shortly (very nice man)
I've got the bits to swap it tonight,

Cheers guys, all sorted was a completely failed rear wheel bearing, the cage that holds the needle rollers had failed hence alot of play. it went from
very light druming to complete failure in 100miles!
I splashed out £18 on a new drum and pressed the bearing in at work, so it was a wheel off and one nut job once home in the rain.
