Zetec engine blown help needed please
I have a mondeo zetec silver top engine in my locost 7 but it's packed in and I need a new one.
Will a focus engine or a mondeo black top engine fit straight in as there is more of them to pick from?
I'm just wanting a straight forward swop over any ideas are welcome

Should be a straight swap. Only minor detail mods between the engines. Water pump & thermostat housing is different but essentially the same
engine. Good luck.

I too were wondering this as my current silver is knackered but black top's are much easier to get hold of.

black top and silver tops are different but early black tops are nothing more then re topped silver tops. if it says zetec se or duratec its no good
to you with the exception of the st170 lump and the mk1 rs focus lump. which are silvertops in drag

I have the st 170 in at the moment and I'm wanting to keep the 170bhp. So I think I'm just going to look for a bottom end

Engine mounts and alternator mount are different as well as the alternator belt routing which needs an idler,the water pump outlet is a different
diameter and angled differently.I changed from silver top to black top so am quoting from experience, also if you have a modded sump the silver top
sump is not a direct replacement onto a black top but can be made to fit.
If its a silver top then it is not an ST170 engine.

If you want a straight swap then look for a silver top. The black top is definitely not a straight swap for most installations.
