Help with power comander.
Ive bought a power commander 3 off ebay for my 08 R1.
It seems that the previous owner deleted the map off it before selling as it appears to have no map, and so the engine won't start with the
power commander started.
It didn't come with the 9V battery connector, so i can't just connect it to a PC to add a map.
So ive been trying with it connected to the engine, and laptop, but the power commander only stays on for the first few seconds of ignition on, so
won't stay connected, so can't send a map over that way either.
So is the only way to get a map onto it, to but a 9V battery connecter, or am i missing something?
thanks

Are you sure its connected the right way round ?, had one on my zx10 and the first time i coupled it up i put the plugs in the wrong place. i was in
the same situation as you, bought it off ebay without instructions etc... worked fine when i plugged it into the right blocks !!

You don't need a map in the PC3 to start the engine, even with a zero map the engine will run.
Instructions can be downloaded from the Power Commander site.
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

Hmm, im sure i had it plugged into the right blocks (grey one behind T.B).
Ive just managed to make my own 9V adaptor, and have loaded a map onto it, so will have to see if it will fire now tomorrow.
but looks like that might not be the problem then?

I could be wrong, its a couple of years since i did mine but i think i did the same thing, i plugged mine into the loom behind the throttle boddies
and it would not run, lower down the engine above the gearbox was another set of plugs which the p. c loom fitted into. I know the zx10 is a
different motor but its worth a look, as iiyama says it should run without a map anyway

The power commander map just piggy-backs on the existing standard R1 map. The figures in the cells of the PC map just alter the standard map by that
amount. With no map loaded (zero map) then it just runs as standard.
Does it run with the PC disconnected? Have you connected the earth wire as well as the loom connection?

No it doesn't run at all, just turns over.
the earth connecter is connected, i will make a proper connection onto the white ecu cable though as im not too confident with the scotch
connector.
I will see if that then makes any difference.

Just to bear in mind, The experts all run the earth from the PC3 to the neg side of battery rather than just earthing locally.

If it dosen't run with the PC disconnected then you need to look elsewhere.
...and don't use scotch connectors if they can be avoided.

I'd be checking fuses incase ones blown while you've been busy. Fuel pump running etc? Go back to basics and get it running with no PC3
then start again.

You've not accidentally hit the kill switch off have you? Obvious I know, but I suffered from the same problem on my RSV i.e. the PC would only
power up for a few seconds after ignition on and then shut down and it took quite a while before I realised what was happening.

Sorry adi, i misread PC as in laptop rather than power commander.
Yes it runs fine without the power commander fitted.
But when the power commander is fitted, and i turn the ignition on, the lights go up and down on the commander while the fuel pump is priming, then
the lights go out. and when i try to start the engine, it just turns over.
It seems like the unit isn't getting any power?
Mike what do you mean by kill switch?
I can't see it being any fuses as it runns fine without the commander.
I will try it again later when home, but hope i havent bought a duff commander!

just had another go, and the engine is now starting.
however, it only connects to the laptop once the engine is started, and cuts out after about 10 seconds!
so does anyone have any ideas?
does this sound like a software problem?
cheers
