Glue in windscreen

I am trying to layout my windshield supports etc. It will likely be a split screen with the center about 3 inches forward of the sides, and with a 40 degree rake.
If I was to glue\ the glass down as in a modern car, how wide a section would I need to glue down on the edges. If too much I may have to go with the rubber seals?
Dale

Thanks
Dale

Most modern cars, quite wide, usually more than an inch

Modern cars use the windscreen to add rigidity to the bodyshell, hence the size of the bonding area. Given you’re just using the adhesive to hold the glass in, I’d have thought even 1cm would be sufficient, especially if the surround is rebated so the glass sits down flush.

just remember to makesure the glass has a small gap to the frame (see below) when fitted else when you need to replace its hard to cut out with the cheese wire and damages the surround. Guess how i know.

As usual thanks a lot for the help. the one cm sounds perfect for the middle as I did not want it to have a wide strip down the center but that would give me about an inch block out of the center including both sides and the center support.
Thanks
