Sierra Handbrake is too long!
I fitted my gearbox yesterday and have one of these gear stick extension devices, but the handbrake and gearlever now hit each other!!!
Can you shorten a Sierra handbrake?

Don't see why not - just chop a lump off the handle end and shorten the rod that connects the button. Take it apart and have a look - I'm
sure it can't be that taxing!

I took the plastic trip off, but couldn't get the button out!
Any ideas?

sounds like your handbrake has been mounted too far forwards......... If you shorten it, it may be a bit hard to pull up due to lack of leverage /
mechanical advantage....

The problem with the velocity chassis is that the mounting points are already in place!
I had thought about the leverage problem, but don't know what else to do!

Yeah I think you need to shorten the handbrake.
I've no idea how to do it yourself, but one of the
components Luego flog is a shortened handbrake
for 23.50

What about modifying it with an "L" shape on the end to reach around the gearlever?

You could maybe mount it off-centre, or even shorten the gearlever if that's possible.

the sierra handbrake lever is quite long so i wouldn't of thought shortening it a bit would make it too difficult to operate.
Alternatively why not visit the scrappy and look for something a little smaller ?

a metro handbrake is much smaller than a sierra one, this is what i have sitting in the workshop somewhere..

Velocity handbrake
Guys; I found the sierra too long once fitted & have changed it for an MG Maestro unit lift from a breakers. Came with an acceptable gaitor &
handle. Minimal mod to fit the Luego brackets. Nige

Done it!
Drill out the stud holding the ratchet bit, dismantle the button and rod.
Cut handbrake to required length, fiddle about with shortening the activating rod until it fits into the ratchet bit due to its now shorter length.
Once happy, you need to crush the handrake about 2 inches from the end to hold the spring in place.
Reassembe the mechanism, you can use a M10 bolt to replace the stud drilled out at the start.
Cut down the Handbrake rubber cover to required length and shape.
You will need to gring the handbrake a bit to get the cover over.
I now have a Sierre handbrake that is three inches shorter, and works perfectly. No problem with the leverage bit.
I think is suits the car better aswell, in terms of scale.
I can now change gear as well!
