Well, that was a bonus!
My wife and I decided to take a walk along Shotley marina yesterday (it's in the same estuary as Harwich and Felixstowe).
It was a bit cloudy, but we could hear a fairly loud propeller aircraft somewhere overhead. We kept looking, and all of a sudden a war-plane appeared
at around 1000ft. Couldn't work out what it was until it did a wide turn - then we could see that it was a Spitfire!
It came down to around 500ft and proceeded to do a display over the Felixstowe area - loops, spins, low passes - for a good 5 minutes. Although it was
a fair distance away it was still an impressive sight. The final pass along the shore line at approximately 200ft was really impressive.
few years ago around midday one weekday a spit was practising just about over my house, couldn't believe how noisy it was. Was on the nightshift
at the time so woke up suddenly none too impressed.
I get that sort of thing every day here at work. The real aeroplane company is based on the old Breighton airfield which the company I work for
owns.
German tri-planes, mustangs, Yaks, and allsorts of lovely old kites.
Friday afternoons in summer means a good display when the guys are practising for the weekend shows.
The museum is well worth a look.
They also have wings and wheels weekends twice a year.
Denis.

I grew up in Chester and every Summer the DH Mosquito that was based at the British Aerospace site near by used to tool around in the sky over my
house at a few hundred feet a few times a year. Now that was a lovely noise... It was a sad day when it crashed.
I used to live in Lee-on-Solent and we had the Sea Fury from HMS Daedalus over head often. Great noise. They had a Phantom F4K squadron based there
when I was younger as well.....
Thats nothing, I was in Belguim a few years ago around 1987 at a parachute boogie in place called MorselyIIRC We had a Hercules do flypast at the
end of the event lower than that followed by a DH Caribou that was 6 ft (six feet) off the ground . Most of the jumpers I was withh ended up flat on
the floor
