Escort steering rack for Haynes Roadster

Hi all the Chris Gibbs Roadster book says that you need to shorten the escort steering rack, can anyone tell us is it nessesary and if so what is envolved....

It fits without shortening. They shorten it to help elimanate bump steer. So it's up to you if you what to do it or not

I think most poeple are fitting the standard rack without mods.
I haven't heard any bad reports on bump steer issues, I think Chris just says for the ideal solution it needs shortening.
