Sierra uprights
Hi guys,
I'm rebuilding a Luego Velocity XT which was origiinally built with Sierra running gear. Quick question. Will I be able to retro fit Cosworth
uprights or is the geometry different? Cheers, Pete

Not 4x4 ones... not sure about 2wd ones.
But they are pretty much identical so i dont see why youd want to swap? are the sierra ones no good?
OR are you talking about Escort Cosworths?

Hi Ben,
Thanks four the reply. I'm looking to fit big brakes and bought some cosworth discus & bellsz. They fit the hub bolt centres, but the
offset seems different , which was why I was wondering if the actual uprights were the same. The existing uprights are OK, but a little corroded, so
I was thinking I could upgrade if they would fit.

If you want better brakes, you could think about fitting wilwood brakes instead. You'll also save a lot of weight, which is just as important to
stopping.
Sell the cosworth brakes and put the money you would have spent on cosworth uprights towards wilwood and you probably won't be far off

All Cosworth uprights are are the same fitting as Granada/P100 the design of the lower ball joint fixing is completely different.
Some have bodged it up by welding but .....................................................
I think you really need to think over if you actually need bigger brakes, even vented standard Sierra discs are a bit on the big side.
I think what you may really looking for is more responsive brakes, ie you have to push the pedal less hard to slow the car effectively.
The way to get that is through correct choice of pad material to give a better friction coefficient to suit the use you put the car to and sizing
the master cylinder bore(s) correctly to give the correct hydraulic pressure.
Mintex 1144 pads are recommended as the pad of choice around the forum.

I used Granada Vented Front/Solid rear Brakes on my Sierra uprights. Only had to play mix and match from the parts book to get the correct fitting
discs to go with the callipers.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

Agree with above. I have Granada cosworth brakes and I worried I am going to be over braked. Also reducing unsprung weight makes a huge difference
to handling. Something like every 1kg of in unsprung weight lost is like losing 4 kg of sprung weight.

granada cossie's use the same calipers and same size disc as the cossie 4x4's (278mm discs) - they will fit standard sierra uprights if
you space the calipers off to allow for the different offset of the disc - but they are very heavy
the cossie 2wd 4pot calipers are a totally different style of mounting and don't really fit (they can be made to fit, but this involves lots of
grinding so its not the best option) also they weigh about a ton each ! (I've got a pair in need of a recon if anyone wants them)
