Another Q on Domestic Ovens
Someone on another forum is asking if she can run her oven off a 13A socket. Apart from the load considerations I think electrical regs say has to be
off a fixed-wired outlet. 13A outlet is not allowed.
Am I right ?

We were told by an electrician that 13 amps is sufficient to run an 'average' oven, but the oven manufacturer should have got a slapped
wrist for fitting a plug to the wire (it actually arrived in its box like any other household appliance, with a moulded plug on the end!). Luckily I
was having trouble with clearance at the back, so had already cut the plug off to plumb it into a flush mounting plate!!

its electric hobs that draw massive power. Its very common for built in ovens to come with a 13amp plug.

Most single ovens run on a 13a plug. Rarely, it will be 3.6kw which cannot go on a plug. No reason as far as I know why it cannot just be plugged in.

Mine was hard wired but was fused 13 amp at the wall, I replace the wall outlet with a standard switched 13amp ssocket it makes cleaning and servicing
much easier.

Our double oven came with a moulded 13A plug. As per Slimy38 I ended up chopping it off and wiring into a wall plate (wired to a fused switch above
the worktop) for clearance behind the oven.

Thanks for replies but...
I know it's possible to run a single oven off a 13A outlet - I do it myself.
But what do the regulations say?

What does the manufacturer's installation manual say?
