RV8 - LT77 Propshaft advice needed

I am going to buy a propshaft for my Viento but I don't know anything about them. I have a LT77 and a Granada diff at the back. I am assuming I need a one piece propshaft with a splined bit to allow me to fit it and for slight movement etc? Bailey Morris have a lot of options and I just don't know much about propshafts

Sorry for the silly easy questions.

I take it you mean the spline in the middle of the prop, flange at the lt77 end.

Bailey Morris

Well this is the Kit Car guide from Bailey Morris and it doesn't work for mine. My LT77 has a flat pate on the output shaft and the Ford diff also has a flat plate. I was expecting to have a flat plate, UJ, spline bit, UJ, flat plate. But I don't know anything about propshafts so was hoping someone who had bought one could explain.

the pic looks like for a type nine gearbox.

on my lt77 as you describe,

I have flat plate to lt77, UJ, bit of splined tube, rest of splined prop to UJ and then plate to ford diff.

fraid It was in the car when it was bought, so all I have is the builders notes which is:

Prop Shaft Rover SD1 SH Modified Rover propshaft. from EBAY

so possibly a rover sd1 Prop that got modified, shortened I should think too. I can't think what SH could stand for.

sorry can't be of more help.

Chris

Hi.

There are some pics of my propshaft (LT77 to Sierra/Granada diff) here:

Let me know if you have any questions.
Cheers,
Craig.

I think that you need something like what I have connecting my BMW box to my Sierra LSD. I also needed an adaptor plate (not shown in the photo), but you shouldn't.

As you have already concluded its a plate:UJ:shaft-with-spline:UJ:plate. The spline is closest to the gearbox end.

I got mine made by D&F in Leeds and I was impressed with the service. You should give them a call, even if its just to get a price for comparison.

Bailey Morris just off the A1 at St Neots, did mine, and it was fine even with 200BHP and a LSD!

Not the cheapest, but they are specialists and do a very good job.

I phoned D&F yesterday to price up a prop for the Jag engine. They knew what I wanted immediately, they even provide a
converter to fit a UJ in place of the rubber coupling fitted to the Getrag box. About £150 all in.

If you can find one, the rover SD1 prop has a slider at the gearbox end, you could get Baileys to recon the joint shorten it and fit the ford diff flange.

Got mine from

http://www.autoprop-uk.co.uk/

Phone them up, tell them what gearbox, what final drive and distance between the two and they will make it and deliver it accordingly. It'll come with a sliding joint.

It's whio I used on my R V8 powered car
