Striker wishbone bushes

Morning all

Chassis ready, re-powder coated and looks great (BG Penny Coventry highly recommended)

An evening trolling the forums and general internet and I'm none the wiser when it comes to locating a supplier for the wishbone bushes.

I'm looking at either poly bushes, easier to fit and mainly track use or would go back to rubber if forced. There isn't a lot of room for poly bush between moutings.

My dims are:
Centre 1/2" diameter
Outer bush to inner wishbone 27mm
Crush tubes 35mm

What have you striker guys done for bush replacement?

I will keep trying to get hold of Steve at Fury sports cars, he may be able to help.

Hi

It should be a C0092

Google 'C0092 Bush' and they'll pop up, used on TVR's IIRC.

Hi

Sorry re-read your post.. the metalastic (C0092) ones seem to be the general fallback position, people have gone other ways but generally end up back with what it was designed for.

Note that these are half inch bore and it wasn't uncommon to find the chassis frames with 12mm holes in the brackets, a quick drill/ream out will fix that, worth checking now before you start bolting it all back together!

Thanks Jim, found some online that match my specs perfectly.
£200 for 18x of them so holding to find a cheaper supplier.

The search goes on for poly bushes. The rally design model (https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=1375_1594_1600_1601&products_id=25106) is almost a fit however would need to be machined down. There isnt a lot of width left between the 32mm width wishbone sleeve and the 35mm width on the bracket.

I'm surprised no-one on here nor JPSC has been through this? maybe because its back to metalstic!

Hi

They have - but, generally speaking, most people end up back with the metalastic type.

People have done all sorts of experiments with poly and rose joins in various locations, and had some 'interesting' results, if you do a google search on 'Striker Suspension Bushes' about half a dozen threads, just on here, will pop up on the subject.

Personally we stuck with metalastic and given that it won pretty much everything we ran it in there didn't seem to be any point trying to 'fix' it further

Have you looked at Powerflex's site?

I have, nothing that matches dimensionally. Polysport were close but wanted £40 for 2x top hats and a tube!

One of the major factors in my decisions is ease of fitment of poly bushes vs metalastic. Pressing the metalastic out was hard, very hard, I had to carefully cut a channel down the steel outer and then press it out. Pressing them in on freshly powder coated wishbones and not causing powder damage scares me!

I have some ssc stylus suspension bits that are polybushed in my spares, i came to use them on the striker to find that their poly bushed arms use a wider bush than the sylva metalastic bushes, so wouldn't fit in the striker chassis brackets.

I have got the metalastic bushes from avmr previously, they have taken a price hike since I last bought some though from £3 ish to £11.00 plus vat

The C0092 tvr bushes can be found cheaper, but they are 38mm wide instead of 35mm so not a direct fit.

Hi Dave

I have seen the bushes from that link at avmr, its a bit steep some £250 for a set of 18 bushes YET they are the exact dimensions. I tried to call and see if there was a way of discounting but they are closed, will retry.

How did you press these in?

After looking again I dont think it possible to polybush without modifications to the chassis, there isnt enough avaliable width to accommodate the top hat in the chassis brackets.

Rose jointing isnt for me on the road, the roads around Coventry are the worst but I bet we could all make that claim!

I have used both a hydraulic press, and sockets with studding at different times, they are hard to start moving to get the old ones out (more a problem with using studding than the press) , and the new ones compress slightly as you're pushing them in so don't like to go in square initially.

Getting as close as possible sizing of your press tooling helps to cleanly push the bushes in/out, but it does mark the powder coat to some degree however careful you are, masking tape sort of helps but not 100%.

Hopefully they do some sort of volume discount, I could do with replacing a couple of mine that are starting to delaminate and don't fancy the current prices.

I will have a look at the ssc bits i have, iirc the actual arm ends are the same dimensions, but the crush tube and bushes are wider to allow room for a top hat.

Hi

I will enquire ref volume discounts for sure, if any other Striker owners requiring the same dimension metalistic bushes let me know, Ill try and work a discount. You'd hope but not assume (ASS U ME) they didn't change much of the specs....

My specs are:
Bore Diameter 12.8 (1/2 "
Bore Length 35.0
Outer Diameter 27.0
Outer Length 32.0

If you're really stuck then how about making them yourself? There's loads of videos on youtube to give you pointers on how to do it.

Sorry no brakes I forgot to reply, see my other post red being after a lathe, I'd be tempted but don't have the tools presently.

Neil at MK has come back to me, he can source the bushes for me, his supplier will need to make them fresh. £10 each Inc vat but plus postage. I am ordering 18x for the full set.

Any takers? I'll let Neil know before he orders them in
