V8 Viento Fuel pump location question

I'm building a Viento with a 3.5 Rover V8 with a 4 barrel carb, and I've got to the point of putting in my fuel line(s) but I'm a bit unsure as to where the pump should sit.

Should my fuel pump be sat by the tank with a short return line from the reg? or up by the carb with a return line the same length as the fuel line?

I fitted my pump just below the tank on the passenger side. I havent fitted a return line.

It all depends on the type of pump you have.

Carb Engines only need about 6psi fuel pressure, any more and it will seep past the cut off valve in the carb.

If you have a high pressure (injection) pump, you will need a fuel regulator to get back down to 4-6psi.

I have a Facet pump and have fitted it slightly below the tank level at the back, and fitted a splash guard.
Also fit a cheapo filter BEFORE the pump, ie between tank and pump. (helps stop the pump from getting jammed with crud from the tank).

Some pumps are ok at the front, and some need to be at the back.
I have used a facet pump in both areas with no probs.

You dont say what pump it is, and whether its a High or Low Pressure Pump. You could have a pump for an Injected engine, and will definately need a regulator etc.
With a LP pump, you probably wont even need a return line.
If you have carbs and need a regulator, you have the wrong pump, and will need to have a regulator and a return line. Seems a bit pointless and unnecessary expense unless you are going injected later.

You will probably be ok either end, its not a long run. Also for a V8 run a min of 8mm pipe. Also dont run electrics alongside, its a SVA fail. I also put my pipe in the black split convoluted pipe used for wiring to give a littl protection from dirt stones etc etc.

Cheers for the replies folks, I don't actually have a fuel pump yet or know much about them tbh! I was gonna cross that bridge when I came to it!

Given your comments and looking at the viento wiring loom it would seem the back would be best place to locate the pump.

Does the pipe definitely have to be 8mm? The pipe that I got with my build blaster kit was 5.3mm, will this not suffice?

Depends on the Engine, and the fuel demand / comsumption. A V8, need a good delivery system. or you could possibly get fuel starvation problems at high revs... Specially with a BIG 4 Barrel Carb or injection and tuned engine.

V8 - Passes everything on the Motorway... Except a Fuel Station
