Some quick questions - RV8 Viento

Time for a big push to get the car ready for june..

First Question - 3.5 Rv8 with big carb.

1. which Fuel pump should I use - 5- 6 PSI or 6 - 7 PSI

2. should I fit an inline fuel filter between the tank and pump.

3. Should I fit a regulator and filter in the engine bay ( any point in having a gauge on this )

Now they get hard.

I Have a landrover clutch cylinder and slave cylinder on the gearbox.

What thread do they use ? - so that I can make a fexi hose to join them.

Final questions

What thread will the oil pressure switch be?

Temp sensor thread ?

Thanks

Paul

Car will be ready for SVA this year

i would personaly use -

6-7psi pump, - can supply more fuel for future power increases

inline filer - easier to get to on servicing

thats just me personaly others may differ

cheers

Matt

Hi,
1. Fuel pressure depends on the carb but you will risk flooding it if you go too high. I'm running SU carbs and have been advised that 4-5 psi is ideal. I would think that 7 might be too much but as I said it depends on your carb.

2. It is usually recommended by the fuel pump manufacturer to place a filter between the tank and pump in addition to the one between pump and carb(s). This is to stop debris in the tank (weld spatter, rust, dirt) from damaging the pump rotors.

3. As mentioned in 2 above, I would fit a filter in the engine bay but a regulator should not be necessary for carbs. Kinda depends if you are running a return pipe or not. On my V8 I am not running a return pipe, just a carter pump feeding fuel along the tunnel into a filter and to the carbs. Nice and simple!

4. Don't know about landrover clutch bits but Rover SD1 clutch master and slave cylinders use an M12 fine thread if I remember correctly. I'll see if I can dig out the receipt for the unions I used for my flexi hoses.

5. Don't know about oil pressure switch thread or temp sensor thread but would be interested to hear what the are. I am using standard Rover SD1 sensors but might want to change them in future.

Happy New Year!
Craig.

Paul,
I take it its a 4 barrel carb. 6-7PSi will be plenty, so no more than that. I think the Webber 500 needs 6psi. Any more and you will start flooding it, as it will overcome the pressure on the cut off valve in the carb.

Filter After the tank, and before the Pump to save the pump from damage.

No regulator needed, You can put another filter just before the carbs, I use a £1.89 cheapo inline one. Clear plastic on so I can see the crap in it.
No return pipe needed unless you have a regulator in the system, or Its Injected.

Land Rover Clutch master Cylinder is Usually Imperial.

Land Rover probably is 7/16" thread to take the 3/16" pipe. Check with an imperial brake fitting. Check as I could be wrong. If you got a Land Rover Series 3 M/Cyl from Paddockspares as I did, then its imperial, and the Std brake sized which I think is 7/16.

I used brake pipe from M/Cyl to a bracket on the chassis by the engine mount.
I used a Fiesta rear Brake Flexi (Dirt cheap) from the Chassis to a bracket on the engine, and then a bit of Brake pipe to the Slave Cylinder.

Connector sizes:
Mast Cyl - 3/16" LONG Male fitting (its a deep hole) - brake pipe -10mm Female Nut - Fiesta Flexi Pipe - 10mm Female Nut - Brake Pipe - 3/16" brake pipe to 12mm Brass Adaptor from Rally Design into Slave Cylinder.

I have a brake flaring tool so can make up my pipe ends to suit. The above works fine, and is cheap. A nice Stainless flexi works just as well, however the cost is far more.

WARNING about using a Stainless braided Flexi. SECURE it well, as it can flex and touch the Starter motor connectors, and there is a FULL Battery on one of those terminals, which can start a fire, or cut through your nice expensive stainless flexi cable, or both.

I bought several bits from Rally Design...

HU9 - 12mx1.0 Adaptor for the slave Cyl. for 75 pence

Then I got a HU7 and a HU1 they are simmilar price, as i could not remember which one to get, and the postage on guessing wrong made it worthwhile getting either size at the start!.

also do a search at Rally design on just HU it will list lots..

Happy New year...

Sorry for the Ramblings,m it was a good night last night,

Geoff
