INSURANCE - Just Quoted. Advice
Hi all,
Just got an insurance quote for the Locost spec:
1300cc Crossflow
Registered 1999 as locost 7 Kit
1500miles Limited
Garaged etc.
No Claims points etc.
Im 19 with 2 years no claims.
I have tried adrian flux and it came up at £788 per 12Month, does anyone think this is steep.
Is there anybody else who I could try.
Thanks in advance.
Ian

That’s what I was going to say, but still a terrible price.

Agreed with above, but that seems massively over priced.
Try the other companies FJ etc. When i did my insurance the price diffferences were massive. I know i am a bit older but i wrote the motorbike off
in June last year and they paid out £6150 for it so some insurance companies would not touch me others were wanting over £500. I am probably still
paying over the odds at £300 FComp 3,000 mile and i am 30 years old.
Best of luck

For a 19 year old that sounds reasonable to me. I have heard of 19 year olds paying premiums upwards of £3000 for bog standard Corsas and Festas!

Flux will nearly always do a deal if you tell them you've been quoted cheaper elsewhere - worth a try just don't ge too optimistic with
the "other" quote if you genuinely can't find cheaper.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

For a 19 year old i think thats not out the way. Bear in mind my bro inlaw is paying 700 quid for a 1.1 escort with his dad on his policy.
I know its a specialist car but its still a sports beast and your 19... Dont be expecting it to be cheap./..

What policy are we talking here, fully comp or TPF&T?
TP F&T should be cheaper, fix it if you crash ;-)
Another thought, if you can't get it cheaper find out if you can improve your policy for the same price, i.e. if you up your mileage to 6000
will your premium go up at all?

You could try Graham Sykes, I had to reduce my miles right down, but they offered a "rebuild it myself" option thing and that brought it
down considerably!

Thats not bad considering you're only 19 with 2 years driving experience and trying to get insured on a pocket rocket. I'm building a
Vortx next year and got a quote for £690 for 5k limited mileage age 23 but I know I can prob get that done to £500 or so through MSM.

At 19 that's not too bad... bear in mind that there isn't much on the road to touch it in terms of performance.
Fancy not researching beforehand....

Try these chaps
Performance Direct
They were shed loads cheaper for me. I got their number out of PPC mag. I can't recommend these folks as I've never had to claim but the
quote was excellent!

Im 23, used no no-claims, and am paying £266 fully comp for my GTS 2.0L zetec.
As long as the engine size is under 2001cc, it makes no diffeence to policy price.
Got my parents on it, by best mate, but the thing that makes it cheap for me is the fact I live in the middle of nowhere.
With Sureterm by the way

It is worth bearing in mind that the cheap quoting car insurance firms very rarely pay out the full amounts or delay paying as long as possible.
Try the NFU - you would need to become a member but they are normally very competitive.

NFU.. Excellent. I am insured with them for my two main vehicles. However, for my 3.5Litre V8 Viento, they wanted £480. Which was not bad for a Non
Kit Car company.
I am 54, and the wife is 50, so thats a bit expensive, especially as it included 5 years NCD (from my 3rd vehicle which was insured with them)
I did the rounds, and Graham Sykes got my business with a quote of £188, fully comp me and the wife, 5k miles, etc.
I just got their reminder today for the renewal. Expecting to to go UP... Was I pleased when they only want £142 for this year. Thats a £46 DROP, (
all with the 5 years proven NCD from NFU, who did me a nice letter for Graham Sykes).
Well Done to Graham Sykes (and NFU).
You can try NFU, but I would be surprised if they can compete with the specialists.
Also you dont have to be a NFU Countryside member anymore. That saves you nearly £40 for the membership. However its a nice mag every month!.
You think you are being stuffed at £788 for the year.
My son is 19, and I couldnt get him insured for less than £2k. yes £2000, several wanted £2500 for 12 months in a 1600 xflow'd Jago
Jeep
You will find your insurance will drop a bit at age 21, and a lot at age 25.
Being old doesnt have many advantages. But Insurance is one of them!
1. The point of a journey is not to arrive.
2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.
Best Regards
Geoff
