lt77 oil leak and oil change
Now the car has covered its first 250 miles The only issue I have is a small oil leak from the rear oil seal on the lt77 5 speed box.
Having looked at the LT77 info this seems quite common and I should be able to change it without having to remove the gearbox. ( already changed front
oil seal before fitting. Should have done rear then! )
The BIG QUESTION is should I change the oil at the same time.
I currently have ATF fluid in the gearbox BUT now seem to be finding a lot of advice to switch to Texaco MTF94 gearbox oil.
SO what Oil should I use
ATF
Or
MTF94

Hi Paul,
I have just put a recon LT77 in mine and was told by the rebuilder to use MT75 Manual Transmission Fluid as used in Ford Transits.
Have not driven it yet so dont know what it's like.

A lot of the TVR boys, myself included, use Castrol SMX-S.
There seems to be a lot of bullshit talked about oils, and probably most decent quality oils of about the right viscosity would be fine.
Some swear by ATF, some say its the devils treacle...
I think RPI recommend SMX-S.
I use SMX-S in my gearbox (LT77 on the end of 230BHP), and it has improved the gearchange.

ATF is fine but if changing the oil grade consider using the official Rover MTF94
