I have some avo coilovers to fit and had a go earlier but stumbled across a problem. The top mounting is ok but the lower one will not fit. The yoke?
of the coilover bottoms out on the U bracket so the screw will not go in.
I have been looking but can't seem to find the right part. I need a 36mm internal width and the hole height a minimum of 27mm. Has anyone got any
thoughts or anything in their garage? They are to fit an English axle btw.
Jon
Can you not grind a bit off the brackets? it doesn't look too far out
The shock needs to move down but can't as it is bottomed out on the bracket . I'm not keen on elongating the holes really
How about cutting off the old mountings and welding on some new ones?
Got to be better than 'modifying' the units.
Oh I get you, I thought the shock wouldn't go far in enough in to the bracket because the collar was fouling. Could you enlogate the holes but then weld a washer with the correct diameter hole on the outside of the bracket both sides to centralise the bolt?
Looks like deeper bracket time to me, chop off and weld on new ones as there is a lot of force applied here and you need flex room.
Might have some up the workshop that will do, I'm up there tomorrow so will have a look
cut them off, weld these on assuming they give you more clearance
Yours look quite short compared to the ones Ive posted

I think I will have to replace them as mark says, even elongating the hole and welding a washer on will be tight. Thanks snakebelly, I have asked someone on eBay too. The need to be 36mm gap for the shocker/adapters. Would I be best using a U bracket or two plates welded on? Two plates would be trickier to weld well? I'm no professional but not a novice welder.
U bracket is easier, cut out of some box then slice the top off is an easy way for a neat job, drill then trim.
Just had a look and I have a few on the shelf, 28mm between the legs and the hole centre is approx. 33mm from the base, I can post you a pair Monday am, £3 each plus approx. £3 for P&P.
Just Messaged you mac. They aren't wide enough really. I may look at box section.
I can recommend Dave at Rogue Engineering;

He's got a couple of sizes on his Ebay page but he can also do custom sizes. Very good brackets, fast delivery and the cheapest I could find.
That's who I contacted actually haven't heard back yet though.
Dont hold your breath Jon, i mailed him from ebay a week ago and heard nowt re bracket dims for one of my projects
What about using 40mm box with a 2mm wall? I was thinking about closing the ends to effectively form an open top box with a gap to let water and crud out? The other option is 3mm wall and open it out slightly. What would be best?
Anyone?
Oversized and use washers to close the gap would be my preference for it. Trying to open up a bit of box isn't a great idea if it can be avoided.
