Haynes Chassis Box Section

Hi folks,

I'm looking for a little help, I'm at the stage now where i require 19mm box section to complete the tranny tunnel and diagonal bracing.

The question i have is, can 20mm box section be used in place of the 19mm as i can get 20mm box section much easier and cheaper. Or will the increase in size have an effect further down the line.

Any help appreciated,

Cant image 1mm difference will cause you any issues, I know someone that's used 25mm throughout without issue

No i didn't think 1mm would make any difference, but i thought i better ask just incase. Better safe than sorry.

You will just have to make minor adjustments to lengths and angles. To keep the project 'on piste' from the start it might be worth buying the all the chasis pieces in the reccomended steel and pre cut to the correct length ready for you to weld.

Either way to be on the safe side check with Talon (on here and the Haynes forum) who knows Haynes chassis inside out.

If I may, I'd like to briefly climb on my soapbox.


Two things happened in 1971. I left school, and we went metric.

Every class has it's smart arse, and we were no different. At 9 o'clock on the morning we went decimal, John/Owen/Fred?Whatshisname,
who's dad was a bank manager, opened his "real leather" briefcase and brought out a full set of the new coins.


Here we are in 2014 still humming & haring over 19mm (3/4 inch) and 20mm box.
We still call a kilo of sugar a 2lb bag, we can only drink "pints" of beer, and although we buy petrol in litres we can only
comprehend how much we use if it's in miles per gallon.

What is it with us Brits ?
