What is the rev limit on an R1, 2003?

Yes it does have a rev limiter I think its set at the same as a the earlier 5JJ engine which is 11750rpm

If you haven't hit the limiter yet, your not driving it properly!

In a sad moment, I digitised the torque curve for a stock R1 5PW and worked out the optimal shift points:

1st->2nd: 11500 rpm
2nd->3rd: 11100 rpm
3rd->4th: 10500 rpm
4th->5th: 10500 rpm
5th->6th: 10600 rpm

Might be useful if you have a very fancy programmable dash that allows you to set a different shift point for each gear. On my digidash (which doesn't allow you to do that), I've just set 11500rpm as the shift point and then if I really cared (e.g. on a drag strip) I would remember to shortshift a little in the higher gears I suppose.

And yeah if you've not hit the limiter you need to drive it harder!

The engine managment i got from Malc @ Yorkshire Engines is apparently a race unit that adds 700rpm and 5/6bhp.

Would this ECU have a rev limiter, i dont want to rev the engine too hard just incase?

To make good use of the extra RPM you really need exhaust and induction side of engine to be optimized....if you have regular trumpets and non calculated downpies the extra RPM will newer give you anything other than 700rpm closer to engine-death....
I donīt remember from top of my head now if the YEC ECU letīs you alter ignitiontiming also, that can be useful and necessary to keep pumping power at increased rpm.

Look at any powergraph...an standard 2003 will even reduce power after 10ī700Rpm...

But if you have an prepped engine (Headjob, camshafts, hi comp pistons etc) and developed intake, exhaust you can reach 190 RWHP...as my friend (national champ in sidecar racing).
