Appealing to the greater experience of others on here, am I interpreting the msa blue book correctly regarding the main roll hoop specification.
My car was built post 2009 - Does the main hoop have to be 45mm x 2.5mm or 50mm x 2.0mm ?
Or are there exceptions which I am not aware of , if so what ?
Thanks
Minimum Material
Cold Drawn Seamless Unalloyed Carbon Steel,
containing a maximum of 0.3% of carbon.
Note: For an unalloyed carbon steel the maximum
content of additives is 1.7% for manganese and 0.6%
for other elements.
Minimum Yield Strength
350 N/mm2
Minimum Dimensions (Ø in mm)
a) Mandatory tubular members
45 x 2.5 or 50 x 2.0
38 x 2.5 or 40 x 2.0 (For roll cages/bars approved
prior to 1.1.95).
b) Optional tubular members
38 x 2.5 or 40 x 2.0
Yes, 45mm or 50mm
Only excections are where the cage has been approved my the MSA for cars, such as Caterham cages.
It does not make a lot of difference in cost as unless ypu are particularly gifted you will have to get someone to put the mandral bends in.

although mine was for my landy, I'd recommend http://www.whitbread-offroad.co.uk/ for getting a rollbar made, he did a first class job of mine and were very helpful and cheap
