ROLL CAGES
GazzaP - 16/10/04 at 09:28 AM

Hiya

We are just in the process of finishing our locost for the 2005 750mc championship but we need a roll cage that will come forward of the original rear hoop of the car. the chassis is a stuart taylor chassis.

I assume you are asking for help in locating one?
Mine is safety devices so they definitely do one!
Also try Brian Mitcham bwmitcham@hotmail.com our championship coordinator who used to do them

Thanks i will give both a try.

hopefully i can get someone to weld from the rear forwards for me.

i'm hoping to get one sorted within the next month so i can put in some testing in full race trim.

Would recommend Marc Nordern MNRacing

http://www.mnrltd.co.uk/

He has built a lot of cages etc and did a really neat job with mine

Hi Gary

Welcome to locost!
What made you change?

Looks like we will be confusing a few people next year, seeing as we have the same surname, and a very similar first name!

Do you have any preferences for your number as I am hoping to retain no '79'!!

Goodluck with the prep, as for cages I suppose its worth trying those above + Stuart Taylor, Luego, & Procomp, possibly MK. Or I suppose you could find a welder, get some tube and make one up.

Gavin

What made me change?? well stock hatch was getting stupid with costs and people taking it so seriously. Also a big accident that was caused by someone else not wanting me to win. So i had a hunt around and chose locost.
My car is almost ready i got a cage from Brian Mitcham and nearly have it finished then just finishing touches.

bit slow on the uptake, but looks like you now need a full roll cage to race in 750mc locost? is this right?
was building fairly book car with 1/2 eye to taking in a few races, but plans may be altered if full cage required; was hoping to get away with book style reinforced roll bar.
any news (regs seem a bit unclear - roll protections as per msa .... and/or reg ...)
cheers

yeah you do need a full cage to race in the 750mc locost series but there are other championships available to race in that you do not need a full cage to race in, my cage came from brian mitcham the locost race official and i must say it was a great fit and very well made.

What are the rules regarding what role cages you can use? From the locost regs I understand it as that you must use an MSA approved cage. Does this mean that you have to buy cage from an approved builder or can you design and build your own cage by the MSA rules.

Thanks,
Andy

I built my own cage & have been racing the car for 2 yrs - just make sure you read the blue book & locost regs carefully to make sure your design complies.
