Hi all,
As the msa now require Rops on a kit car ( I can't fit one without hacking lumps out of the bodywork ) I had given up on the idea, but I've
come across the above series. Has anybody ever competed and what did/ do you think of it?

A few do but I think it's not competitive - class structures not as per msa - safety standards not to msa
I may do the odd event in the Jedi but won't be doing the full series.
Have you read the regs on ROPS in the blue book? What class do you usually run in?
I get a bit confused with all this wanting to compete but not wanting to meet the basic safety requirements, it has been massively lax for years
IMHO.
Surely hacking your bodywork is a couple of carefully placed holes for your own benefit if required?

I have done a few track days with javelin in the past and they always put on a good clubman event
It's a good way to get into a bit of motorsport competition without having to go the full blown route of a full series championship
As for safety regs you should be responsible for your own safety and take the appropriate measures for yourself, whatever they may be

I'm also thinking of Blyton but I'm testing there on March 4th and it's a long way to travel. I'm also there early in the season and for the full weekend with wscc in July

As stated I will probably be in the hairdressers paddock
I imagine it being a free for all where parking is concerned!
But I think the paddock has been tidied up and Tarmac laid so hopefully we won't be collecting rather large rocks in our slicks like previous
years
I've been to a couple of times to javelin sprints at snetterton and cadwell to help a friend seem well organised and about 6 to 8 runs, think some of the lesser safety standard on basis of only one car in section at a time less chance of car on car but still a chance to push, lots depending on tyres in what can be a 1 mile run

It's a shame really. Can you not fit a cage? Possibly a tonneau cover for if it rains

The rear stay on my Jedi is bolted to the roll hoop!

I have seen a Rops that was fitted through the boot opening, If I can make it a bolt in system then I could live with that, but I'm not sure the the msa would be ok with that idea.
Since these problems have arisen my mrs classic mini is looking very tempting as an alternative

Are you going full cage Jeff?
No. just a rear hoop (45mm tube) with the back stays. Had to cut the rear bodywork out on the Phoenix to fit it....seriously hacked off at that !

All jedis are same and comply
Jedi's were homologated way back when that was acceptable in the rules. They also have there pedls in front of the axle line. Once a design is
homologated you can carry on building cars and racing them to that design.
Although my car is very similar size to a Jedi it has to conform to the newest regs so ends up with a much beefier roll hoop with a large diameter
fixed rear stay.
I think a lot of the problem with kit cars and new ROPS regs (especially for Westfield) is that nobody bothered to homologate the designs when they
were done so they are now no longer legal. If I had forked out for a Westfield RAC/MSA roll hoop and then found out that they weren't homologated
and now illegal to use I would be pretty livid.

I too am thinking about javelin sprints i run in road class 2d and believe that i will have to run on 1a tyres rules unclear yet and do away with my 2 roll hoops cobra style then build a new roll frame cannot go to full cage as Jane cannot get into one so 4 sets of tyres to throw away new set to buy new hoop to buy new boot lid to accomodate rear stays possibly 1000 pound to stay in the game and next year i believe i will have to run with hans so new helmet to get hans posts and hans harness 800 900 pounds and throw away 3 year old unmarked helmet l love hillclimbs sprints really great bunch of people there again no chance of falling out as only 1 car on track at a time no car on car bumps i am not against having rules and i am all for safety motor racing will always have its risks just come a point when ordinary people get priced out and young people cannot get in

What car do you have?
Kitcars in road going now need to comply with ROPS regs (minimum 45mm roll hoop with back stays) and use the 2016 list 1b (or 1a) tyres. You do not
need a FHR (HANS) in road going.

Hi Jeff take your point on breath, I have Kumho v70a so list 1 c now and 2 roll hoops like cobra so new frame with back stays required. i cannot just throw away 1200 pounds worth of tyres . And i am sure that hans is going to be for every thing post 1976 next year all my tyres are road legal and e marked, we all need more lead time on the rule changes. Any money i spend on these changes every year means i enter less events so the money is not going into events and clubs so reducing their income. I can see the merit in the rops issue the tyre one is bonkers.
Right....for MSA competition you need the ROPS changed.
Then you can either continue to use your 1C tyres in Modified Specialist Production but you will need a FHR or
Continue in Road-going Specialist Production and change to List 1B tyres (Avon ZZS, Toyo R888 or R888R etc)
them the choices for MSA competition.
I end up in sports libre as no reverse.
Car is log booked, this does not cost much as the local scrutineer popped around and signed off.
I have to purchase a HANs and posts then good to go this year.
If you know someone who can weld properly then a flat pack rear hoop and stays will come in at less than £100, you can of course leave it as bolt in
if hoods are a problem, just follow the rules.
£ for minutes is very bad compared to a track day but you do get a rush sprinting.

I'm in the process of having a roll hoop fitted to the Phoenix which will bolt in (as per the Blue Book) so it is possible.
Make sure your sat down when the price appears
And now from 1st Jan 2017- jedis no longer comply for speed events. It's a complete farce!
