Twice now, in the heat of battle we,ve lost the gear linkage, we would really like to remove the need for a link system altogether.I understand that by useing some parts from an older box and a few mods its possible to do this effectively.Perhap those higher up the order would like to comment, on this more mundane subject than some of late, as entertaining as they are!!! thanks DREW
Would love some info on this for normal build..... nobody willing to comment?
OK, here are your choices:
1. Bent gear leaver
Pros - cheep + easy
Cons - weight of leaver often causes car to fall out of gear. Can cause overly long throw
2. Make a remote shift.
Pros - Works Great (if made properly) can be a quickshift
Cons - can be difficult to make
3. Use siera type 9 (5 speed gearbox)
Pros - gear leaver is further back, removing need for 1 and 2
Cons - weighs 15kg more.....
Most racers use a remote shift. You need a rose joint, and two universal joints, some metal, and a welder. Let me know if you need more detail!
Most people have the problem of the plastic threaded part of the gearleaver pulling out of the gearbox. There are 2 solutions to this.
a) buy a metal one
b) dril and tap holes in gearbox, and then put m4 screws in to stop the plastic threaded bit from pulling out. This is what we do.
Hope this helps...
