hi, i notice that the regs state that items from an escort, cortina, capri or even sierra can be used, my question is,
what are the best
Uprights
axle
gearbox
???
Thanks in advance
Lee
The regs are very specific as to what axle and uprights you can use. The uprights are from a mk 3/4/5 cortina and the rear axle has to be a live axle
either english (timken type) or atlas.
Gearbox is pretty vague, iirc it says mk 2 escort, cortina 3/4/5 or sierra box can be used. This gives you a selection of type 2 type 3 type e or 5
speed type 9. However I believe that they are changing the gear box rules, so i'd hold off getting one for a while if i were you.
thanks, thats good..
i will hold fire on an axle.... at least i'm clear on the uprights etc...
looking forward to getting it built... just need to sell the XR2 now... was hoping to see a few people for a chat at silverstone, have realised we
are racing on the sunday, so may come down saturday and just stay overnight.
thanks
Lee
Hi on the axle front you are not allowed to use the atlas in the regs.
Not that you would wan't to due to it's much extra wieght so just an axle from a mk2 escort. Preferably with 8" drums and a either a
3.9 or 4.1 or 4.4 diff. A 4.1 will get you round all circuits with a 4 speed box.
Re gearbox's hang on for the moment as the drivers commitie and club are currently making final decisions as to exactly what gearboxes and ratios
are allowed for the 2008 regulations.
cheers matt
thanks for the repsonses, i meant to say gearbox in the last post... but am looking to get the chassis together in the next couple of weeks... so i
would like the uprights and axle so i can get it rolling..
Thanks again
Lee
Hi the only other part not mentioned there to get rolling is the rack which is also from the mk2 escort.
For this the best place at the mo to get this new is rallydesighn.
You are looking for a quick ratio 2.4 turns lock 2 lock. Do not get this confused with the guys that sell a rack wich has 2.4 turns lock 2 lock but a
std ratio .
cheers matt
ha ha, i was just about to ask about the rack !!!
thanks.
