Carbon Seats
simes43 - 12/11/07 at 04:53 PM

A number of cars are running carbon/kevlar seats in the Locost Championship.

Is this allowed?

Hi Simon . I thought it was cleared up when you asked about the hans device at the yearly meeting at south mims ( this year i think ) That they where not ( caron fibre seats that is not the hans wich is legal )allowed. I guess a phone call to kieth would give you the final word as to wether or not they where allowed.

Cheers Matt

Robin passed the use of carbon side impact head restraints at the 750 meeting.

I plan to use a Sparco unit this year, if I ever work out how to fit it!

The reason of asking is that I noticed a couple of cars had full (what looked like ) carbon seats this year.
A much safer option than grp, but not in the rules as I read them.

Anyway off to see if anyone will make a magnesium seat for me

I never asked about the HANS as I doubted anyone would have objected.

Ahh i thought it was you who asked about hans device or somthing along that line anyhow as i remember the conversation about it and then carbon seats or somthing like that.

It was more than two days ago so i cant remember to well as to the exact outcome of the conversation Cant remember what i was doing yeterday never mind january.

Wouldent worry about light weight seats. by the time they have got them properly mounted in they are heavier than a proper foam seat anyhow and they are no where near as supportive or comtable as a molded to your own body seat.

However as you say reading the regs.

2 Modifications prohibited:
1 General: Kevlar carbonfibre and titanium materials are not permitted.

I would also say that anyone using one was not legal. But i guess one call to kieth would clear it up.

cheers Matt

I had a chat with Keith Messer during the London Show regarding the use of carbon seats in our championship.

Keith declared that carbon seats ARE allowed in the series.

Hi so now we are allowed to fit them. What prices are you paying for them and whos are you using.

Cheers Matt

I will probably look at the new Tillett W1 with the floor mounted base.

About two kilos and is reasonably cheap.

I need a seat that allows the sparco head restraint to be fitted.

Tilletts could be offering an integrated head restraint on their seats in the near future.
