Well done,
if the DVLA are quick you might see some of the summer.
I recently passed and if you have your paperwork in order it should go OK.
If you want an age related plate make sure you have the original donor in the SORN system , have the original V5 documentation, fill in the built up form correctly and have or create a reciept from the chassis manufacturer showing the VIN number.
Thats all thay wanted to see from me at Northampton.

Happy driving Pete

preston were ok with me, i think it took about 2 weeks for the tax disk and reg details to come though after inspection part of the hold up was paying for the tax and reg, so see if you can do that when you arrange your inspection (at kirkham?) they only do inspections on one day thursdays i think, but the guy that did mine was more interested in the car than checking the numbers

Well done on your pass

I passed at Carlisle last Wednesday, and went directly to Preston DVLA on Friday (you can't ring the regional offices direct). I took with me:

- MAC certificate (you will want to copy this before you go)
- Certificate of insurance
- Receipts
- Photocard driving license

I spoke to the casework manager, Chris Stones. The person who usually deals with kit car matters is someone called Owen Vawdrey, however he is apparently away this week.

Chris Stones admitted he didn't usually deal with kit car matters, however he got a v55/5 and a built up vehicle report, and he and I filled them in. He also arranged for an inspection at Kirkham VOSA for me this morning (Tuesday).

So, today I went to Kirkham and the inspector was somebody called (Gary?) Loughran. He looked at the chassis number, engine number and the major components (gearbox/suspension/steering rack/rear end sierra stuff), which took all of 5 minutes.

As I didn't have enough sierra components or the sierra V5, I will be going on a Q plate. As such I will have to use a VIN allocated by Preston DVLA rather than my own. I will receive my new VIN via the post. I will then have to get a garage to confirm I have stamped it in and then take that to Preston DVLA.

As I paid on Friday for my tax and registration fee (£125 and £55 respectively) I would hope that when I take my VIN proof to Preston I can get my registration documents immediately. If I remember I will try to update this post when I manage to get my plates to give you a timescale.

Hope that helps,

James

Thanks guys! it failed previously on mirrors and headlamp bar needed fixing more securely. I was hoping preston may be more accomodating as i know i'm getting a q plate so why do they have to examine it ?? also i have created my own chassis number so why must they allocate me a new one? it's not a kit therefore i should be able to use my own provided it does not exist already.....
