hi
i did a long search on here, but did not manage to find informations.
i have a 2.9 mk2 rack fitted.it has always been too long for me (track car), but till now i managed to race as it was.now, with a LSD fitted this
winter, car is really tricky and i do need a quick rack
i've seen the RD 2,4 ratio, but i wonder if the 2.2 quaife kit won't be the best option. any opinions?
how hard is it to fit the quaife pignion kit?
bonsoir
I use a 2.4 rack on my Viento with a 3.62 LSD.
Its great for catching the back end when it steps out of line.
However at high speed its twitchy, and took a bit of getting used to.
I wouldnt swap it now I have got used to it.
I have a 2.4 in mine, i wouldn't want any quicker but mine is mainly road use, a friend of mine has a 1.7 but his is track only and by his own admission takes some getting used to and would be to quick for the road.
Hi
Quaife are the only supplier of a 2.2 ratio. The Quaife kit will only fit in to a Ford steering rack body. It will not fit any of the later after
market ones. The 2.2 ratio is about the best compromise for road and track use.
I personally would prefer the 1.9 ratio that Quaife used to sell for just a track car. However it's taken 4 years for them to reproduce the 2.2
ratio.
Cheers Matt
Yep I agree with Matt.
I had a 1.9 in my Phoenix and it was the best setup for track use.
The 2.4 in my Fury is fine for road use though. I cannot understand anyone not wanting a quickrack in cars like ours.

thanks all
matt, usefull information, my rack is not a standard one but a repacment part as RD sell.(mnr supplied)
are 1.9 still available from quaife?
i may consider to buy from scrap a old mk2 rack and rebuil it ...
Hi
There is no replacement parts or kits that will fit the RD rack. They are purely disposable items. The pinions have been found to have play in them
and there's no adjustment to be had.
A Ford rack body and Quaife kit are the best option. These are properly engineered and have adjustment on the rack bar and the pinion. I have no idea
if quaife currently have stock or even sell the 1.9 ratio any longer. But would be worth asking.
Only other alternative is a Titan rack. But they are getting more expensive, They used to be around £300.
