Replacing a tie rod

In relation to the "how to remove a tie rod"

Specifically the pin that needs drilled out to release.

Is there a special pin that needs put back in or will an appropriate sized metal pin type item suffice if secured in the hole?

Thanks in advance everyone

a split pin is the usual pin, the pin should also pull out if not drill it nice and slowly

The Mk2 Escort racks normally have a soft metal pin to secure the inner ball joint to the end of the rack, which has to be drilled out. I'd have expected a new pin to come with the rack end to be honest.

It's a pair of used tie-rods that came from an old rack of mine (so the old pins are now in pieces). They were indeed a pretty soft metal (not split-pins).
