Sierra rear discs and calipers
fideel109 - 28/11/10 at 08:32 AM

Hi,

As a winter project I want to change the rear drums of my tiger avon to discs.
So I'm after two rear Sierra brake calipers and eventually rear Sierra discs.
These items (secondhand) are hard to get in Belgium, so if anyone could help me out

regards,
JP

Make sure you have the corresponding Dicsc on the front or you will be overbraked on the rear, leading to unstable braking.

I had the 240mm dicsc on the front (which should pair with rear drums) and then had discs on the rear.
I failed SVA twice on the back to front brake ballance. The ballance bar ended up being hard over to be able to meet the SVA test.
Later on I changed the fronts to to 260mm discs off the Sierra 4x4. and this made a big difference.

So ensure you get the ballance correct if you uprate the rear to discs from Drums.

Why not buy your calipers from www.brakeparts.co.uk I have used them for many years. Not sure if they will post abroad or not, but worth a check.

Hope this is useful info.

I have a set of TVR Tuscan rear discs if they're any use? They use a Sierra rear calliper, can't remember if it's a complete rear carrier or not. Only issue is that they're 5-stud - I assume Granada/Scorpio pattern - so you'd either need Scorpio hubs or do re-drill them.

They're vented and cross-drilled.

They're second hand, but loads of life left. Came from a mate's car that has too much money spent on it. It needed new front pads so he thought 'he might as well change the lot'.

just received some bad news, brakeparts can't deliver the calipers, because it's only on exchange basis.
reply from brakeparts:

"Sorry to say the calipers are available on an exchange basis only. The supplier is NOT making any new units as they are only doing the exchange units"

Has anyone another idea where i could buy some calipers?

jp
