Just had a guy fron Zenith Windows round to get a quote on garage doors. I wanted double electric roller doors.
After 1hr 15 mins of sales cr%p I stood up and asked if he was ever going to give me a quote. Eventually he said that normally he could only give 35%
discount but if I agreed there and then he would give me 50% discount.
I said it would have to be a bargain for me to decide straught away.
Quote and wait for it
£10,000
with discount £5000.
After falling over laughing and asking if he really was serious, I politely (!!???) asked he to leave and put his garrage doors somewhere else.
What a waste of good building time!!!
My neighbour had a standard single-garage up-and-over door replaced with an electric roller job for around £900. Reputable company, I believe. I can't imagine that a double would be twice that price.
It's two single doors so even £2000 would have been reasonable. I'll probably do them myself!!!!
Sounds just like the Safestyle salesman that called a few years back.
I think it was a Zenith salesman that I had to physically remove from my house since he had no intention of leaving until I had signed on the line for
double glazing. I'm normally quite polite, but lost my rag after 3 hours of high pressure sales pitch. They started out with a simply amazing
quote of about 14k (for a 3 bedroom semi), which was reduced to 8k as my house had great "show house" potential. Standard practice
apparently.
From what I've read Safestyle would have been just as bad, but when he arrived I told the salesman that if he wasn't prepared to give me a
quote and then leave within the next 1/2 hour then he needn't bother coming in. Think I'll be getting a small local builder to do the
windows now as a few people have recommended him.
i had a similar thing a few years ago. I think the saleswoman turning up in a brand new, top of the range Merc probably wasn't a good idea.
I explained at the very start, i wasn't going to sign anything, i just want a quote so i can get an idea of what it would cost.
After 45 minutes of going "what about this style" and me saying "NO, i want an exact LIKE for LIKE replacement" she then went an
measured up. She left after nearly two hours .... I had the full discount, if you sign today, show home blah blah, other peoples warranty's are
no good etc etc....
finally got the quote down to around 12 grand (9 windows no doors).
She was confused when she left why i didn't want to sign ....... i reminded her of hte first thing i said when she arrived & that after her
attempt at selling to me i would point blank refuse to deal with her company even if they came in as the cheapest.
They're pure scum! My old man invited a window salesman round to get an idea of cost for replacing a single upstairs front window (not a bay but
pretty large). The first quote was 4K!
which after an hour of discount, i'll phone my boss, oh we're having more work done in the area,
if you sign today etc etc etc it was £900. As he was being escorted out he was essentially accusing my dad of having 'lost it' for not
wanting to sign!
Now the final £900 quote probably wasn't too bad considering the size of the window, but what really pi**es me off is having the audacity to
pitch the 4K in the first place. These people must genuinely pluck a ludicrous figure out of thin air that in no way represents fair renumeration for
the work to be carried out. And they do it because some naive vulnerable old woman, for example, will say 'gosh, is it really that much? Well i
need it done so OK' Thieving scum, and the sooner that industry is properly regulated the better. I mean, you dont go to Tesco, get quoted
whatever the hell they think they can get away with, then listen to an hour of bull**it before being offered a reasonable price for your groceries.
Why should you have that crap inflicted upon you if you want windows/conservatory etc?
If you can't do it yourself, use a reputable local builder every time. Never deal with these window companies unless you're savvy and know
exactly what your doing and stay in control!

I have to say guys, a window takes 20mins if that to fit and is only held on with four raw plug like screws. If you can fit a shelf to a wall and use
a B&Q mastic gun then you can fit windows...
I mind hearing of a woman who had been pressured into buying a £1300 ordinary vacuum cleaner by a home salesman. Turned out that the interest rate was
infact higher than the repayment rate so after a year she infact owned more than she did at the start! Yes these people should be jailed.

I had remote roller garage door fitted about 5 years back. Cost about £600 and was fantastic. Sensor and light would have been extra £50.
2 neighbours got similar door 3 years after for about £700 each (mine was 12' wide, theirs std single).
Thicker insulated doors are more but certainly not the astronomical amounts that the rip off reps try and charge.
Gliderol doors sell on e-bay. A 14ft door with remote for £700.
