Mnr quick release boss rocking on splines
corrado vr6 - 1/12/13 at 01:58 PM

Hi again all, few weeks ago I had my IVA test and failed, one of the failures was the tester didn't like the movement of the quick release boss rocking on the splines, in truth there is a bit of a rock before the column itself moves left to right,

anyone had this issue before or got any bright ideas how I can stop the rocking?

The only thing I can think of feels a Bodges and that's pumping some tiger seal in there to take up the slack, it only needs to last till after the test, but as said seems a bodge and maybe others have a better idea

Thanks in advance
Greg

Amazed that you were allowed a QR wheel full stop let alone concerns that it has some movement. QR wheels I believe are not approved for road use.

I do hav one now but fitted after IVA

If its loose on the splines i can only guess its one of the cheaper ali bossed stock car type which in my experience all have too much play in them for my liking. Got any pics?

My MNR supplied one is the same.
Bought one from Merlin Instead which is rock solid.

It used to be a common problem back in the old days, the quick fix is Loctite 641 bearing fit if you neeed a really permanent bond then use Locitite 680.

My Ginetta G40r comes with quick release as standard and Passes IVA, So no issues with IVA.

I would take the play up with grease if it cant leak out, if no a bit of silicon as a temp measure. Obviously a dodgy part if its rocking, should be manufactured with very little play.

I had locked my QR so it wasn't an issue come IVA he just didn't like the amount of movement before anything happens at the column.

Thanks for the advice guys I think I'll per severe with the Mnr QR boss then one passed ill upgrade to a higher quality item
