the older zx can run no problem on veg oil my mate runs his on 100% oil all summer and 30%-70% mix in the winter.

Any diesel with a mechanical pump will run on veg' oil. Thats what the original design was for though it doesn't do any harm to mix it. You will end up constantly craving fish+chips though.
Modern diesels will run on it but need a special set-up; Separate tank, start on derv, heat the oil and purge the system with derv when switching off.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've said this.

1) Drive to Hamilton.

2) Fill up with proper Biodiesel. Any modern high pressure engine such as HDI or TDCI will run on it fine.

3) Save.

It's now up to 99p a litre, but come on, that's still a saving of around 38 %.

The place is behind booker cash and carry.
Follow the signs.

He takes CASH.

I had a real problem running Mondeos & Transit diesels on Bio-fuel - it knackered the pumps after about 6 tank-fulls (on 3 different cars btw). I would never run it 100% but alternate between Bio and Ordinary to keep the pumps happy.

i have the good old bosch mech pump which the popular view seems to be about the best to run on veg oil

but where to get the oil?

eh up,

i used to have a 3.0 td toyota hilux surf. bosch fuel pump so went heavy on the veg oil especially in the summer (plus back then veg was 45p per litre!!)

as for buying it, i used to clear the shelf in asda, get funny looks at the checkout with nothin but 50 litres of veg in my trolley, then proceed to empty into my truck in the car park. That way i then went and put the bottles straight in their plastic reclycling!!

a guy on the hilux forum used to get a weekly order in a lidl and do the sam thing.

the other place is Makro or costco for 20 litre drums.

Plus its now fully legal!!! so long as you dont use more than 2500 litres a year.

i never tried waste veg oil, for the cost of new it wasnt needed.

My truck loved it, engine was quieter and same mpg, plus depending on what oil you got t either made me want chips, or donuts from the fair!!

Another trick was to use 95% veg, and thin it with 5% unleaded

cheers,

Martin

PS. i do not endorse anything in this post as being safe for your vehicle!

I use Bio in my Shogun, was £1 for the last year and he's rammed it up to £1.10!

Still cheaper than the garage next door at £1.40 mind...
