So talk to me about Jaguar x-types people,
Thinking 3.0 Auto AWD for towing
good idea? bad idea?
Thoughts please
Cheers
Mooky
my cousin has had no problems at all with her 2.5 version well apart from the mpg.
but she does not do big miles so its never really been a issue, from memory all its ever had is servicing and tyres.
experiences may vary
It's basically a posh mondeo so there won't be any problems with the ride
Road Tax costs a silly ammount. if you buy get the transmission filter cleaned and fluid changed by a auto-transmision specialist
A lot of Ford era Jags are floating around not finding buyers, just before I went on holiday a 2.5 AWD X type with 58k on the clock was failing
to find a buyer at auction, bids stopped at £700. Only things I could see against it was the buffer strip on one door was missing and had
allowed rust to get a hold , a check on ebay revealed a few matching doors at a reasonable cost.
Rear suspension bushes are an issue with the AWD, my Dad just changed his. Replacing an alloy would cost you an arm and a leg as they don't make
them any more. He had real triuble with the Bluetooth until he changed his phone and the Sat Nav occasionally loses her voice. Also had an
intermittent headlight failure that could be an electrical fault (or ham fisted father - sorry if you read this!).
Aside from that he loves it. Manual, not auto. It's a 55 plate and he'd had the 3.0 V6 Mondeo and loved it before the latest 2.5 turbo
Mondeo, then down-sizing to a 2.0 Focus and then buying the Jag (he'd always wanted one).
He bought his from a main dealer who threw in a warranty - just as well as the faults listed above would have cost a packet. Dealer who he bought it
off gave it a MOT but one wheel was knackered, took ages to replace and local Jag dealer have been really good.
Dad loves the car, no matter the MPG. Hope that helps.
I had one for a while,
a 3ltr awd,54 plate,48k miles
mpg was shocking as low as 10 mpg when you are pressing on,and only ever got high teens
huge road tax,
every week there was always something,£10 here £20 there, relays ,bits and pieces ect
spent half its life in limp mode,
the interior and fitments were suprisingly good,
they are prone for the shaft to pop out of the transfer box, happened to me ,
the jag man at brands hatch fixed it,he loved his job,had loads of repeat customers,
for me I always wanted a jag, would I have another no
there are better for the same money out there,
just my opinion, maybe I had a wrong un ,I dont know,
but friends who also have had and still have all say the same
never again,shocking resale values,
stef
If you want a Jag buy a Browns Lane one, if you want a good X Type buy a top spec Mondeo...
As Coozer says, if you want a Jag buy a proper Jag and live with the foibles. If you want a solid, comfy, practical and economic tow car, there has to be better options; Mondeo, Passat, BMW, Audi etc. All of which look you will look an awful lot better driving around in (IMHO).
