Fisher fury brakes
joneh - 21/9/14 at 05:40 PM

Hi all,

I recently bought a bargain fisher fury off here and I'm in the process of stripping it and rebuilding. After 10 or so years of storage the brakes are too far gone. The mc is corroded internally and the caliper rubbers have perished, so I have a blank slate.

I need a complete setup to suit mk2 escort from uprights. I have a like rear axel so will stick to drums for rear. What do the collective recommend , in the way of brands and master cylinder?

Thanks,
Jon

Have a look at caprisport they do a whole range of discs from the xr4x4 calipers that fit under a 13" wheel to a fiat turbo brembo kit for 15" wheels. The brembo kit may need the xr4x4 rear disc to balance it out. Great value. (I am putting the gtr260 and rear disc kit on my anglia). Most kits will need the hubs machining so bear this in mind (reduce flange size and remove original disc mounts, not difficult but needs doing.

No problem sticking with the drums on the rear. Lighter than most cast caliper conversions, more than powerful enough for the rear and with a good handbrake.

Plenty of options for the front but if you want "bling ally" then the default is Wilwood Powerlite 4 pots. RallyDesign do full kits. I've got their Seirra version on my fury. Never had a problem really. Avoid Wilwoods "smart power" pads though and go for Mintex 1144.
The other aftermarket option is HiSpec but heard lots of bad reports of them warping/sticking/leaking.

I have drums on the back and the car does only trackdays pretty much with no problems, with just about all bias forward, with some great pagnid carbon pads at the front works well with a solid disk and hi-spec calipers.

As Adi said there are reported problems with the Hi-Spec caliper put.... touch wood, I've been ok but would go for wilwoods.

Avoid Wilwood master cylinders, I've had several fail (as have others on here, do a search to see). Their calipers are great though.
