MikeR - 22/5/11 at 02:40 PM

Folks,

My xbox died with the red ring of death. My brother supplied another so i've now go one sitting in the back room annoying the misses. Are they worth anything & if they are, where do you sell them?

Cheers, Mike

Ok, how much to fix them & then what is a 4gb cream coloured 4 or 5 year old xbox worth with no games, leads (apart from power) or controllers

Stick on ebay, plenty of people buy them for spare parts/repairs

Ebay or fix it.

Google the problem and it tells you what to do.

try a fix, £3 and an hours time, done 5 or 6, 1 would'nt work before or after and another lasted 2 months of hard use the rest are still up and running.

Mike, it depends what the problem is.....obviously.
It may be dead, it may be fixable.
The most common fault of overheating the GPU can be fixed by replacing the mounting studs for the heat sinks with good old nuts N bolts.

Do some googling, look for the fault code first

http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=472553

then work from there. Ive done loads of these. Some more succesful than othere mind.
Hope that helps.

Look at the manufacture date on the back, if its within 3 years you can send it back to microsoft (collected free of charge) and they will replace it. The microsoft 3 year extended warranty is only valid on the RROD failure. Microsoft CS can confirm via the serial number if its eligable to be replaced if you ring them.

Obviously if its been opened up in the past and the warranty sticker looks the worst for wear then the above is a no-go

Edit: Just caught your 4/5 year old bit in the post above so that option goes out the window then

Cheers

G

Sell it on ebay, finish the "slowcost" and drive that for some real fun.

Give it a Viking funeral and buy a proper console
