While I was getting my wheel bearing sorted out ouside Brands last Thursday, I noticed the guys at the garage build driftcars...But what really caught
my eye was 2 V8 engines in the corner with ITBs on them. Turns out they are V8 Lexus/Toyota engines out of LS400s which are going to be fitted to 5
Speed Manual Supra NA gearboxes.
The guy reckoned they would make 400BHP and weight 10Kg more than his Vauxhall 2.0 L & Type9 combo....
Would make a lovely reliable motor in a Kit car as it certainly looked small enough. The best bit is that the engines cost him £100 for two...!
ooh. wonder if they're small enough to ever fit my truck?
Wa Hey............ Forget twin bike engines
400hp in a 7? That’s an accident waiting to happen
260BHP is standard and 650mm x 650mm x 650mm apparently. 195Kg ...
ITB fitted and I guess you would be looking at 320-340 without cams.

The standard cams are very mild.
Depending on which year you get the standard bottom ends are good for 600bhp on FI, but upgrade parts are cheap from Aus.
The only problem is the lack of a decent manual conversion at a reasonable cost. The supra boxes arent common and clutch, box and adaptor adds up to
2k or more.
Nice engines tho!!
Great engine, but an absolute pain in the ass to convert to RWD as there is no manual version from the factory. You need a custom flywheel (or a
redrilled MR2 one), a custom bell housing and a R154 Supra Turbo gearbox, by which time it's no longer a cheap option!
It'll happily rev to 8k and with a pair of turbos you can see 500bhp on standard internals, but it's not as cheap as it first appears.... (I
still want one though!)

£1500 and it EXCLUDES the gearbox and bellhousing bloody hell!
If I do it I think it'll be getting an adaptor plate roughed out of some thick sheet steel with an angle grinder! Might even make 2 and sell the
other for £500 - it'll seem cheap!
Tom
Well the auto ellhousing comes with the donor, and you wouldnt expect them to supply and therefore warrant a secondnahd gearbox, but like I said, its
about 2k to do it right.
TBH, theres the elxus, audi and bmw motors all around 4l, all with a very rare, or non existant rwd manual!
Pretty sure one of the Dutch lads is using one of these engines, but supercharging it.
As said, the engines are cheap, it's the gearboxes that are a nightmare.

Thoma4age is doing a rather nice DIY twin supercharged job on one of these engines:

Cheers,

Thomas is going for the LS route. 1UZ doesn't fit the lola.
You can adapt it much cheaper. Ed at v-eight.com sells drawings you can take to the machinist/waterjetter for 25AUD, he also has adapterplate for
hydraulic TOB.
I'm going to use this engine in my midengine project with ITB's and Drysump.
These engines can be had for $500 from flea bay.
Any source for £50 engines?
