Pretty bullet proof really, clutch release bearings / primary gear shaft bearings can get noisy if oil is neglected, noise goes away when you pull the clutch.

Some tick like tapets from the top left - nowt to worry about, mines done it from new.

Head bearing wear, wheelies are so easy, but hard landings are even easier.

General signs of accident damage on a bike 10 years old, and botched wiring, some will have had more than one alarm fitted.

Alternator stators can fail, but unless you take a multimeter not easy to check, lights on, they should brighten when you lift off tickover, if they dont suspect a charging fault....

Be very careful on your first ride too! Even if you have had fast bikes before, when I went from a tuned zx6r to a R1 it felt like being shot out of a gun and sitting on the bullet! Even a innocent sneeze can send the front straight up and you straight over the speed limit.

Also I have known the back to try to step out under heavy acceleration at this time of year even on dry roads, and as always check steering head bearings as anyone who claims that they have never had the front up is almost certainly lying!

I know of a really nice R1 in Llanelli if you're still looking?

One of the orginal 1998 4XV Models.

Very close to standard condition - only mods are double bubble screen, crash bobins and Harris rear hugger.

150 bhp/170kg - no form of engine restriction in lower gears (as later R1's had). Massively fast.

29,000miles, taxed and MOT'd until next summer. Very good condition.

Ģ2500 ono

Hi, the 2000 and 2001model has improved oiling of camīs...98-01 is as people earlier said pretty bulletproof...BUT!
2nd gear can be prone to jump out of gear...an small 1Ģ spring is ususally the cause...but itīs an hell to get in to it if your not pretty smart with the spanners.
Another issue is oil consumption! If you use the bike hard it will suck oil in at an pretty high rate, and new commers to these R1īs should also know that oil lamp is for level not pressure...so are you a bit below perfect oil level and run high rpmīs the oil lamp are prone to lit up.

And again...an 10year old sport bike...have an good look for any signs of crashes on frame etc...check steering stops etc.
