Hey guys. I have knocked the bottom end out on a track day at a donington park track day (oil surge). Its not terribly bad, not heavily knocking just tapping when I get above 3500 revs under load. It doesn't do it when reving stood still though.
I was looking at getting the engine rebuilt but a young engine guru local to me said it may be worth swapping the engine as it could have starved more than the crank of oil? Any suggestions guys, or people I could take the engine to around the Notts Derby area?

I'd say go for a new unit.

If you keep an eye on Ebay, you'll find a decently priced basic engine less any ancillaries that you already have.

At the very least, it'll cost you the same as a rebuild by an expert and then you can do something with your current unit when you have time/inclination or just use it for spares.

In my experience it will only run for a few more miles and then pickup and seize solid on no 3.

As others have said you can often pick these engines up quite cheaply and certainly less than the parts needed to repair. You can't grind these cranks as I believe you can't get oversize shells so unless you're very lucky you'll need a new crank...
