Mapping of Ben Copelands XE powered Haynes Roadster
mtechmatt - 13/7/12 at 02:12 PM

Chaps,

Ben has just set off, and I said I would email his graph but I thought may as well post it up!

(The red curve is at 50% throttle as a part throttle test of torque)

Spec wise, I'll let ben explain but from what I saw, a 2.0 XE running GSXR TBs and on of our V3 Megasquirt units.

Good session, had a couple of issues, with a very disturbing noise coming from the rear wheels, which turned out to be the wheel weights hitting the calipers ever so slightly, but after spotting it this we were relived and got stuck into the mapping.

Well put together engine, though there was some cooling bugs somewhere and I suggested Ben ask you guys as to which way to go with heat management on an XE... seemed to run away to over a 100*c with only light load. This prevented me from being able to hold the car at steady states for tuning, but after balancing the bodies (we had it idling as low as 400rpm after that!) I was able to get the shown results by repeated power running and tuning in between...

Ben took it for a test run after and came back with a grin so we were happy at our end, but I will leave him to post final feedback

Moving forward, if he can put a decent manfiold on there (there were intake lips of around 5mm where the bodies joined the standard intake) that would free up a few more ponies!

Good stuff

Am I being thick? But didn't the C20 XE produce 150bhp as factory standard? I would have expected a freeflow exhaust and individual throttle bodies to free up some more power?

Deezee,

Yes we were hoping for more, but the port matching etc was quite a way out, and without being able to steady state tune it (due to overheating) the aim of the game was to make the car driveable and smooth, which is what we achieved.

Theres a few things that need doing to get the power up, but i'm happy with it for the moment. It starts and idles nicely and cruizes smoothly. Plus flys when you push the throttle!

Ben did you upload the map I sent you?? If so how far out was it?? I'm interested to see where Mines may be wrong especially the ign timing map.

mtechmatt - 13/7/12 at 05:48 PM

Omega,

No I remapped it.

The feuling map was all over the place lots of bumps and hills (though ben may of used the autotune stuff), spikes etc, that needs looking at, ignition was ok, bit retarded at top end at only 36*, I got away with 39 on Bens at WOT.

The actual powr wasnt too far off, however far too rich up to around 3k, but after that running around 12.1:1 so leaned that off slightly but I assume for a self road mapped job it was pretty good

If you're running the same setup I suggest getting Ben to send you a copy

Matt

Ben

Is your XE piped up as per the cooling system diagram on the SBD website ?

omega 24 v6 - 13/7/12 at 07:11 PM

Ben asked me to send him my map but i'm not sure if he uploaded it prior to you getting your hands on it.
It was a self tuned using tunerstudio and a bit of guestimating TBH.
Mines is a v2.2 ms1 with wasted spark and gsxr 1000 bodies Matt.
I also found that leaning it out to over 13.5 causes huge problems with misfires etc and VERY poor idling. It seems to be a much happier engine at the 12.5 to 13 max AFR

Not exactly but i'll post a separate thread for that.

Most engines should idle ok at around 14.5-15.0. For WOT I usually run between 12.5.13.8 de[ending on the engine, never above 14 though!
