Rolling Road Experience @ MTech
Ben_Copeland - 13/7/12 at 08:00 PM

Well, Friday the 13th and i half expected the engine to blow up before it even got to the dyno.

Trailered it down to Matt, arriving about 8.30, welcomed with an offer of tea/coffee by a friendly bunch of guys.

Matt went through a check list with me carefully looking over the engine to make sure there was nothing hanging off etc.

First thing first was balancing the throttle bodies, the chap balanced them so well that it idled at 400rpm.

Next was tuning the idle, but there was a worrying speed related noise coming from the rear hubs. I made sure all the bolts on the driveshafts were nipped up etc. But it didnt make any difference. Matt had an idea it could be the wheel weights rubbing on the calipers, thankfully it was and we cracked on with mapping.

Unfortunately the engine wouldnt cool down even with the cars fan and their cooling fan on. So Matt did his best and with experience of tuning engines was able to get it very close first off. Couple of power runs pushed it up to 152bhp (first was 150bhp basic tune so its a solid engine)

Few things that need sorting out, Cooling system, leak on the sump gasket which has been resealed loads of times and the step in the cut down stock manifold.

Hopefully with these bits done i can catch up with Matt at a kit show and get it tweaked to perfect, but its already 99%.

Test drive was good and doesnt appear to have any flat spots etc.

All in all a good day at Mtech and would certainly recommend them to anyone else wanting a tune.

Only down side of the day was some idiot ran into the back of the trailer on the drive home when i had to brake hard to avoid another idiot.

Cooling wise it appears i've done something the SBD http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Info_sheets/Cooling_systems/Cooling_system.htm website says not too. Joined the back of the head to header tank

Don't like the idea of blanking things off. Must cause hot spots

Brought the graph accross from the other thread for you

Thanks for the feeback Ben, glad you're happy, really should try and organise a Locost Forum RR day or something, but I guess seeing we take the dyno to the shows theres pretty much one there ready to go anyway!!
