Noisy Fuel Pump
Black Cat - 15/8/12 at 02:02 PM

I have a fuel pump which is installed in my Tiger Avon, quite close to the fuel tank and is very noisy and the less fuel there is in the tank the noisier it gets.

Have I got a doggy fuel pump or could this be a set up problem?

Regards

Only if it howls...

What sort of pump is it? How's it mounted?

Check the mounting!

I believe if its a solid state pump (Little square Facet type) it should be vertical.

My pump used to make an awful tapping noise and then after a few months it packed in.

Replaced lower and vertical and it hardly makes a noise now.

If it has one check the pre pump filter isn't partially blocked , better still change it for a replaceable item

Yes it’s the solid-state square type.

It positioned just above the fuel tank at an angle of about 45 dec., which I believed was the correct angle, but might be mounted a little to high.

Looking in the CBS catalogue it recommends they are mounted below the fuel tank and on rubber mountings which I didn’t do so there are a couple of things I could do to lessen the noise and perhaps it might perform better.

Looking on the forum here, it seems this is a common problem with these types of pump but there must be an alternative method or system that one could use as I don’t suppose I’m going to eliminate the ticking noise altogether.

Or would a different type of electric pump, perhaps one of the more powerful ones be more suitable or would that be a waste of money?

Any suggestions before I start re-confederating my fuel set up?
