Merry Christmas all
Had a long running engine rebuild and Microsquirt conversion on my old Fiat Twin Cam . during my last entries on here I was having overheating
problems which I eventually traced to a blocked rad . After a few sessions with Sulphamic acid the car was finally running cool again (looking back it
had been getting hotter before the rebuild) but the acid had eaten too much and left pin holes in the rad I had been running a rad that matched
the engine from a 131 Supermirafiori however they are now very rare and I've been scouring the internet to find a rad that will roughly fit the
same space have the same size 35mm inlet/ outlets in roughly the same positions . eventualy come up with a Mazda 323 unit that is the closest but it
is mega thin at about 18mm . Now I know that Westies and several others use a humble Polo unit , I don't live in the tropics and my lightweight
car rarely stresses the engine and has good rad air through flow . Also I'm not pushing big power out (around 120 bhp ) so would this fairly low
capacity rad be adequate ?
cheers
Hope this can help :

Copper-brass radiators can be re-cored, there are still a few radiator repair workshops around.
Dont see why a polo rad wouldn't work they run much more powerful engines.
Just depends if the outlet positions suit your engine. You can also get alloy versions that are thicker. I've just fitted an alloy honda civic
racing radiator that thicker but then I'm running 250bhp turbo

This one is good value and a larger core

Yes, been looking at civic units, as Polo is too wide for my narrow chassis . Civic has 28mm unions so needs some fiddling to step down from 35m fiat

My civic radiator is 32mm inlet/outlet
found a heavy duty version of the Mazda 323 unit that was fitted to the highest power Automatic version which has a double thickness core , correct size inlet/outlet in roughly the right place and a drilling for a switch. even reasonably cheap from Mr -Auto at about £75 inc vat and carriage. should be well up to the job.
have a look at a merc 190e manual no a/c 1800-2300cc all years
its compact and 2" thick
