Rover v8 gearbox options?
beelzebubs - 22/6/08 at 12:19 AM

Hi, A little off track, but I was directed here from another forum.

I have a Mk1 granada Ghia Coupe running a standard RV8 but the auto box is horrendously knackered.

I have a type 9 box sat here, so I dont have to mess about lenthening the already modified Prop.

My question is, can any one tell me what bellhousing, flywheel and which clutch components from which vehicle I need to use.

or failing this, does anyone have the manual bits I already need laying around that they might want to swap for a tattoo? 4 or 5 speed, not to bothered, its not like I'm going to be doing much motorway cruising or raceing.

hell if you dont ask you dont get right?

anywho, thanks in advance, gonna go read the rest of this forum for tips on my bike engined mk1 escort project too

If you are not worried about a 5 speed then the 4 speed Rover P6 boxes are the cheapest option.

I reckon at tops I'm going to be doing 50 to 100 miles a year, so a 4 speed for round town head turning will suit me just fine.

There was an auction with 4 p6 4 speeds that made £30, but in the picture the boxs looked like they came out of a tractor, were about (what looked like) 6 inches long, and didn't have any bellhousings.

I Bought a Coupe and raped it silly, keeping the v8, box, prop, exhaust and boot corpet , so that prop would need modded to fit a rover manual as the man box is shorter.

so If i'm going to do it i might as well build it properly if the parts arnt cheeply available.

so I might even go down the supra box route, but then I'm going to still need to know which houseing to use, which clutch and which flywheel.

I got hold of a TVR bellho to mate engine to g/box (T5)

ah, so there is an ""off the shelf"" housing to do a t5?

There is a sherpa box, on the deck at the scrap yard, right next to a jag box, they look quite similar....are they?

Okily dokily, I have a Bmw 535i manual box now, a gm auto bellhousing a range rover flywheel and enough odds and sods to put the lot together, whats more is the standard granny prop with the doughnut removed is the exact right length.

thanks for all your help.

Edited to say that the 535 box wound fit in the tunnel with out moving the down, and that fouls the oil filter....so not going down this route now.

Fan dabby dosey.

Was thinking of bm 535/540 6 or 8 box and modify the bell house...but a 4 speed will suit me just fine

took her out for a drive today trying to source a box, and the gearbox just has a mind of its own.
