suspension setup

between making snowmen and removing the iceicles? from the car at mallory last week, I was trying to ajust my susspension setup. Bearing in mind my knowledge if this is almost zero I tramped round the paddock to gain some info, should the car be higher at rear and how much thread should be below the spring seats to stop "hitting the bump stops" any help before Brands ,Thanks

Half inch rake - ie rear should be about half an inch higher than the front. As for amount of thread on the shocks, that will depend on the length of the shocks and springs. If you work on 3.5" ride height at the front, and 4" at the rear, then you'll be in the right ball park.

Hi altho dikie is right about the front to rear rake the exact ride hight will depend on witch chassis you have got and it will make a big difference. Just look at how many people are jumping up the grid after a good suspension setup. Also just as important is pairing the dampers so you have a mached set other wise no matter how good the setup the car will always be inconsistent from one corner to another.

look in the regs for maximum camber settings

try a little more toe out for turn in, however this will increase aero drag on long straights

Hi i dont know what regs you are reading but there is no max settining in the regs and there is no reason to go past 1.75 deg with these cars. Toe out to gain better turn in is just a bodge as there are far better ways to sort turn in problems. Have you tried braking from 115 mph with one car 1" to your left and an other 1" to your right on a uneven surface with toe out.

Well just back from Brand`s and a brilliant days racing. Thats because i spent last Monday at Procomp in Birmingham having the suss sorted. Ivan & Mat not only set up the kit but explained why and what the results of the alterations should give. I knocked 2 secs off my lap time, just shows how crappy it was before and me getting a bit braver. on a separate note will a 4 speed gearbox with separate bell housing swap with standard one? at the last knockings on Sunday the box was packing up and there is one on e bay

I as simply stating its best to look in the regs and see if there are maximum allowances

In the championships we race we all have maximum camber and toe settings that we have to stick to.

Choice of ARBS, springs and simple flat patch setup is the way to go yes
